great bit by major league baseball that the 19th, 24th, 28th, and 30th highest payroll teams are going to be four of the five squads still standing tomorrow, given that the whole sport will shut down for 2027 because owners have brainwashed everyone into believing teams like them don’t have a chance

The Constitution allows it. South Korea has proven it works. If you want to make impeachment viable—and so much else is pointless if you don't—then it can be done by a simple majority adopting a simple rules change: vote on the verdict by secret ballot.

A Democratic Senate Should Adopt Secret Impeachment Ballots on a Priority Basis
Such a change, requiring no constitutional amendment, would free senators to vote their judgment instead of their fears

I would say this: I don't care what you think about trans people. The essence of America is that people here get to live their lives however they want, as long as they're not hurting anyone else. You don't get a vote on that. Trans people aren't hurting you, so leave them alone.

Republicans who see Canada as an enemy has leapt up this year, similar to how Republicans’ approval of Putin shot up in 2016. Virtually no anti-Canada US constituency before this year, and virtually no pro-Putin constituency before 2016. Out of nowhere. Now millions say that’s their position.

There's no standing for states to sue over that EO yet because it's just the president of the United States officially proclaiming his order to illegally interference in state elections, and you have to wait and see how and if agencies actually follow what he said first, is pants-on-head lunacy.

If roughing up a girlfriend and locking her in a room was a virile, authentic a rejection of “smoothgroined” “HR lady” politics, but a rape is too far, then what’s at stake is not a principled rejection of violence against women but a cynical assessment of how much violence a man can get away with.

The right’s reaction to HW Bush-nominated Justice David Souter ruling according to the law was committing to only pre-screened ideologues who’d ignore law to get preconceived outcomes, and manipulate the political system to get them on the bench. Expect that with ending birthright citizenship now.

Justice Alito, in dissent, says the constitution does not "degrade the concept of United States citizenship" by confering citizenship on the children of "birth tourists." Degrade. As if the quality of Alito's citizenship depends on excluding others from citizenship.
This is one of the most important decisions in the history of the Court, and in my judgment, the Court has made a serious mistake. As interpreted by the Court today, the Fourteenth Amendment confers citizenship on virtually everyone who happens to be born in this country, including the children of “birth tourists,” women who come here solely for the purpose of giving birth to a child and then promptly return home. Careful analysis of the text of the Fourteenth Amendment and the process that led to its adoption shows that it does not degrade the concept of United States citizenship in this way. Instead, the Fourteenth Amendment confers citizenship on only those children who, at birth, owe allegiance solely to this country.

Notably, Kavanaugh disagreed with the constitutional holding so that aspect of the decision is only 5-4 That 1️⃣ the plain language of the constitutional text *plus* 2️⃣ the unambiguous minutes from the Congressional debate creating it, can only muster up 5 votes? Very ominous for the future
