This is I think my biggest problem with the passkey ecosystem. It’s very poorly explained and yet every site is very eager to get me to switch to passkeys without making sure the user knows anything about what’s going on or the implications of any of it.

For Winnipegers who may not know this is happening, please give your energetic support to Rainbow Resource Centre. I fully intend to send emails urging the candidates to complete the questionnaire which I will share as images in this thread, with alt text to ensure that everyone is included.
Image of facebook post from Rainbow Resource Centre which reads:

On the morning of Thursday, October 1, Rainbow Resource Centre sent a questionnaire to the 12 mayoral candidates in the 2026 Winnipeg municiple election, including Mazher Alam, Johnny Calderon, Chris Clacio, Tracey Drexter, Scott Gillingham, Brad Gross, Umar Hayat, Kevin Klein, Joshua Pagdato, Noah Redden, Mike Vogiatzakis, and Don Woodstock.

Candidates were given until Tuesday, October 13, at 4:00 PM to respond for their answers to be considered for publication. The results of the questionnaire will be published on Rainbow's communications channels ahead of election day. Rainbow Resource Centre does not endorse any candidate. Our goal is to inform the community on Winnipeg mayoral candidates' positions on issues affecting 2SLGBTQ+ Winnipeggers.

We would like to thank our community partners for their input on creating these questions.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

This is so genuinely cruel and heartless. Ford is, among other things, just a bad person.
Aware that the premier gives out his cellphone number freely, DiBernardo decided to get in touch. On Sept. 7, he sent Ford the following text:

Hello, I just saw the news in the Toronto Star that proposals from the city to retain the bike lanes and reduce traffic congestion were rejected without due consideration. A close friend of mine died in a cycling accident north of Bloor on university [sic] in an area where bike lanes were removed due to construction. This political move is going to cost Canadian lives at a time when we need to be more united than ever before. Please reconsider. He didn’t expect to hear back. He only wanted to register opposition to a plan that will needlessly endanger lives (not to mention one that will have almost no impact on traffic, as an engineering report commissioned by Ford’s own government indicates). “I spoke from the heart,” DiBernardo told me. “And I almost immediately got a response.”

The response he got (verified by the Star): “I am sorry for your loss! Star is always truthful lmao! I have been talking to the Mayor last week about University!”

Carney is truly the Reagan of Canada. A calming, paternalistic figure in a period of apocalyptic uncertainty who galvanizes the economy with short-sighted right wing fiscal policies. And like Reagan, every disaster that Canada encounters in the future will be traceable to his administration.
