Stromatolites are layered rocks produced by the growth of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria). The cyanobacteria form a sticky mat to which sediment adheres, and as sediment builds up, the bacterial mat grows up through it, forming layer upon layer, and often developing into a series of mounds.

New in the Museum Shop! With tactile, colourful designs showing the Planetarium dome, an adult and baby bison, and the Nonsuch, Museum kiddos are sure to love these new kids' mugs! Choose between four base colours: blue, pink, purple, and red. #MuseumShopSunday
Photograph of plastic kids mugs with laser cut illustrative designs on a shelf in the Museum Shop. Mugs are positions to show different elements of the design including the Manitoba Museum logo, Planetarium dome, an adult and baby bison roaming the prairies, and a tall ship sailing. Mugs come in purple, pink, blue, and red base and handle colours. To the left of the image, on a red background, text reads, "Museum kids mugs / Four base colours to choose between!" followed by the Museum Shop logo and website, ManitobaMuseumShop.ca.
