Underappreciated: US farmland *already substantially produces energy, not food*, and does so very inefficiently. Corn ethanol (~40% of all US corn) requires about 100 times more land per vehicle-mile driven than solar photovoltaics -> electric vehicles. Shifting corn to solar *would free up land*.

The "centrist" think tank Third Way is looking to pay someone between $140,000 and $150,000 to spend their days trying to dig up dirt on DSA members. They're trying to sell this gig as "anti-extremism" work, which I find completely disgusting.

Toronto *is* a safe city. Literally 1/10th the murder rate of its Great Lakes cousin, Chicago. (Which, to its credit, has seen major progress in the past few years.) It’s always good to strive to do better but we should be able to describe things accurately and proportionately.

I remain of the view that regulation of social media is better than a ban for young people. But I also pretty much agree with all these proposals.

proposals (definitely real) for social media regulation:

1. Ban the block. You need to rawdog this awful shit to dissuade you from engaging with it.
2. Only joke names. The whole point of this shit is to bring rich and famous people down to our level and not care who's who.
3. No more unmelted cheese photos from the soccer food account.
4. Anyone who brings up the 2016 primary gets deported to Facebook.
