"The Rouse" continues to impress. This novel is a symphony of voices. Miéville has such a good ear for dialogue, that even when he doesn't tell you who's speaking for long stretches, the reader knows precisely who's speaking. What a book.

Beethoven's 6th Symphony "Pastoral" is one of those pieces that has an iron rule — if the conductor takes a languid, lugubrious tempo, they can turn it into an utter slog. Lots of good conductors fall into this trap, I fear.
