One of many things I am thankful for is that when my egg cracked there was a local LGBTQ community and they weren't perfect but I got to meet a huge variety of chill people who were emphatically not the people I knew online.

I don't think most Americans understand yet what a global laggard the USA is turning into here. Media instead told us that electric vehicles were a fad that didn't work.

Seems one of the biggest problems the GOP has (besides its leadership, record, base, morals, values and declining influence) is finding new leaders who are not absolute shit weasels. Which rules out essentially every senior GOP official or advisor currently on the scene.

They think liberals are libertarians who hate trans people and Muslims, and that's a very odd definition of liberalism.

There's a Politico (lol) piece entirely about how Republicans' hope right now is that the polls are all way off and they only get a MILD wipeout and first of all it's full of a bunch of nonsense but the best part is how it ends on this incredible bit:
"The strategist also noted that the polling right now reflects a change in the electorate as profound as those seen after Watergate and 9/11.

“It would be so historically unprecedented you’d have to presuppose we’re staring down the barrel of a generational national trauma that no one is aware of,” the strategist said."

My old Congressman used to say everyone wants more benefits and fewer taxes, but I think it’s deeper than that: millions of people want the benefits of living in society with none of the social obligations.

Phew, do I agree with this entire thread. The way to battle disinformation and wrest back truth in discourse is not to promote your own disinfo or allow lies to fester. Having a false sense of reality isn't going to do our side any favors - it'll just make you feel comfortable when you shouldn't.

It can't be over-emphasized how much <gestures> all this is a result of a set of easily avoidable own goals by Trump and his people. We should remember this when we start to feel panicky about various schemes for holding onto power. Trump isn't all-powerful. He's actually pretty inept.

If this is the result it will be apocalyptic for the GOP. We'd have 54 Dem or Dem-leaning independent Senators.

My favorite part in all this is even the articles of serious R dooming all on background still will not face reality. This MOC says they're DOA and could lose as many as *10 seats* and, like, sir, if you really believe that, you are setting yourself up for a fucking heart attack come November
Excerpt from Politico article:

One senior House Republican said the GOP’s goal at this point was to “save as many Republican seats as we can.” The president, this person said, was not helping.

“President Trump has made this election all about himself,” the lawmaker said. “Now we have to survive that political storm.”

A second Republican member of Congress said the movement of campaign advertising made plain which side was in control of the midterms. This lawmaker predicted Democrats would pick up about 10 seats, more than enough to take control of the chamber.

Even in newly redistricted red states like Florida and Texas, this person said, Republican candidates were “hanging on with their fingernails.”

Republicans have already fallen back from several contested House districts that they feel are no longer winnable, including those held by Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks of Iowa and Tom

Yea, I've been thinking a lot about this. Winning the midterms is one thing but we are absolutely going to need to be clear w/the voters, post midterms, that Trump owns this economy Affordability & accountability need to be the 2028 primary themes! Our messaging is going to need to be crystal clear

Most of the anger this is & will generate on Bluesky is being directed at the Democratic Party which I get. But we can’t lose sight of who is ultimately responsible for this—the Trump admin—& what they’re doing: Threatening to take *all* healthcare away from ~2 million people in each state

The Supreme Court has already green lit Trump’s actions here, meaning that the only way to block or rescind this vile extortion is to remove from power the people holding trans kids hostage Which means however angry you are at the Democrats over their actions here, we *must* elect more Democrats

This bill would abolish ICE, DHS, and CBP, transferring legitimate customs duties to other departments. It would sunset Section 219 of the INA close the Guantánamo Bay detention facility and shutter all immigration detention centers. You have my sword, milady.

Put a fork in the Republican Senate candidates in GA and NC. Rogers is hanging on by the thread in MI. Collins is in trouble in ME, so is Sullivan in AK. Paxton is clearly on the back foot. Kansas is in play. Graham is a weak candidate in SC, and nobody is quite sure about the state of play there.

This is not an endorsement of Harris. I think she is too much of a pragmatist when we need someone willing to tear the thing down to the studs. But the idea that she shouldn't run because she isn't viable candidate is silly.

An important bit of immigration law which is relevant here; there is already a waiver process — Section 212(k) of the INA — by which immigrants who obtain status through fraud that they didn't know about can avoid consequences like losing a green card. So this is *even weaker* than it already seems.

If we can get some leadership figures, committee chairs, the last remaining “serious people” if you can call them that in the House GOP, that makes it harder to recruit for Governor, Senate, and of course the big chair, pair that with decimating state house supermajorities and we’re in business
