Jose Andres is the absolute GOAT. turbolib who has brought meals to disaster zones after the Haiti earthquake & to war-stricken families in Ukraine and Gaza and now he’s YIMBYposting in the face of Spain’s severe housing shortage

Incredible to see the "experts" on resolving the housing emergency that Spain is experiencing! On every television! @telediario_tve @ANoticias
@tele5_noticias @noticias_cuatro The reality is that we have politicians who try to create decrees and solutions when they lack the preparation or knowledge to devise a real solution to the problem we're facing.
Spain doesn't have a problem of a lack of decrees. It has a problem of a lack of housing.
And as long as the Government keeps confusing announcing measures with solving problems, we'll keep paying the consequences of its inaction.
Subsidizing demand without increasing supply pressures prices. Regulating a market more and more without building new housing doesn't eliminate scarcity: it manages it. Taxing a type of rental can change incentives, but it doesn't lay a single brick either.Because housing doesn't get cheaper by distributing scarcity. It gets cheaper by ending it.
Spain needs to build. A lot.
More available land. Permits in months, not years. More density wherever possible. Legal certainty. Much more public housing and also private housing.
But the Government isn't doing what's necessary. It prefers to intervene on the few homes that exist rather than create the conditions for there to be many more. It prefers to present patches as solutions and load the cost of its failure onto owners, developers, and citizens.
The rest can serve to redistribute, protect certain groups, or change incentives. But let's not confuse that with solving the underlying problem.
You don't fix a lack of housing by better distributing the few homes that exist. You fix it by making many more exist.
Less propaganda. Less patches. Less obsession with intervening on the same apartment.
More supply. More construction. More homes.

What’s wild about this is wage growth is weak and inflation is still higher than expected. We didn’t get the Bluesky economic collapse but we damn well might have stagflation

I have never seen anyone make this argument, on bluesky or elsewhere. What we have all seen is people claim repeatedly that they did in fact stop saying weird, which is false. The fact that consultants, who were ignored by the candidates but amplified by the press, were opposed to it is uncontested

This strange consensus building for years now where “consultants” have more influence on campaigns and policy than anyone and they only exists to make democrats worse except for the cool consultants* who aren’t like the others are leading the revolution is a massive hyperbole. *ooops Graham Platner

This to me is the most exciting poll discourse. The wave won’t hit evenly across the nation. What if quad cities, IA vote like the Denver-Metor Area? What if the Katy, TX Suburbs veer super hard left?

A political social network has latched on to a handful of politically active academics whose views are the vast minority in their field, who keep making wrong predictions and denying verifiable facts, but retain a large following. Bluesky recognizes this pattern with climate denial, but not with AI

I see body bags along Denver’s federal blvd all the time not because of a traffic stop but because someone was going +45mph and hit someone getting off the bus or crossing the street.

You know what also negatively impacts people of color more than traffic stops? That’s right traffic deaths especially cars vs pedestrian deaths.

I took a western agriculture class at Colorado State, which has one of the best natural resource education programs, and I will never forget the professor telling a room full of farm boys and me, that if all CO agriculture ceased completely it would have 0% effect on the price of anything.

the bizarre thing about this person is that water use is not, in general, a problem. what is a problem is using more water than you have. cutting all water used on datacenters doesn't solve the problem even if you cut it to zero, and stopping insane ag usage does even if you cut it 10%.

love bernie for what he's done to help push dems to the left and inspire folks like aoc and zohran, but the man is pretty close to "do the opposite" when it comes to picking friends. the fact that he's hanging out with these people is pretty solid indicator you should not take them at all seriously

Bernie Sanders took hold of a generation of young voters who were made conscious of societal inequality and injustice by the murder of Trayvon Martin and the rise of BLM, and told them that actually the real societal crisis was free trade and young white professionals being in debt.

I don't even agree that Bernie's measurably moved the party to the left, given how many of his acolytes ended up becoming either MAGA, or various other flavors of bigoted crank. The party was moving to the left, he just hijacked a preexisting shift and drove it into the ground out of pure ego.

It’s only a “bet” in the way that the purchase of any other product is. Buying stocks is purchasing ownership of a company to make money for you. Ownership of stocks via index funds (which are themselves stocks) is one of the vehicles of middle class wealth

If you’ve had a gambling addiction you should be cautious about stocks, sure, but the belief that stocks are gambling is basically one of the myths that is propping up inequality in this country. Stocks are *buying the means of production, the fundamentals of the capitalist system*

A lot of people love to doom in a smart boy fashion by constantly predicting a Dem underperformance, you won’t believe this but it even happened in 2008. Being cynical and negative doesn’t mean you’re smarter, it just means you’re a bummer.
