I gotta say I was really annoyed with this segment of the @majorityreport.bsky.social. It's like a fifteen minute hate talk about @thebulwark.com for sabotaging leftist candidates. I listen to hours of Bulwark content every week and I see no evidence of sabotage or cynicism.

I thought it important to share this because it goes to the heart of what could deliver Democracy and by default Democrats a BIG win in November to put the brakes on this madness. Independents are the key to unlock the door to providing the opportunity for transformative change. Then the question

I am an editor at Liberal Currents and also not a fan of this piece, as I favor wealth taxes as part of a multiprong anti-oligarchy agenda. I do like to point to articles like this to demonstrate our fidelity to big tent liberalism.

I take my coffee black. I drink brown liquor. I usually prefer beer over wine. And I love boba tea. Just try and scroot gender from these beverage preferences. On the other hand, I like my boba tea with 0% sweetness and less ice. On the *other* other hand, it's usually taro milk tea.

Two major new articles from RGCS alum Mary Jo MacDonald @maryjomacdonald.bsky.social BA '17, now Assistant Professor of Political Theory at Mount Allison University “Marriage as Slavery: Oroonoko, the Slave Trade, and the Origins of English Feminism." APSR doi.org/10.1017/S000... 1/2
Abstract
This article investigates Mary Astell’s controversial comparison of marriage to slavery. While existing scholarship situates this analogy within the neo-Roman republican framework, which defined slavery as subjection to absolute rule, I investigate another paradigm: the transatlantic slave trade. To make this case, the article traces the influence of Aphra Behn’s Oroonoko (1688) on early feminist thought. By foregrounding the market logic underpinning chattel slavery, Behn popularized the idea that slavery’s harms were rooted, not in absolute power, but in the commodification of human beings. Astell appropriated this insight, showing that marriage resembled slavery not because husbands wielded power over wives but because the institution had been commodified: women were treated as things to be bought and sold. In uncovering this genealogy of feminist thought, the article highlights the enduring contributions of the “first” English feminists—insights that are entangled with, and shaped by, the development of the slave trade.

The raw visceral hatred some men have for women, at least women who step out of line, is shocking. I know it sounds like some sorta "one of the good ones" ploy but I am genuinely taken aback when I see it because I think: I had a fairly normal socialisation as a man in the west, how did I miss this?

Watching people who propped up this corrupt disaster of an administration for their own enrichment start to slowly back away with their hands up will be good for short term dunks, but thats not good enough. It should be a reputational nuke from which these people never recover.

It really gives the game away when the anti trans orgs are calling the election of the neo nazi party in Germany a "glimmer of hope."
A screenshot of an online article headline from "Inspecting Gender" by Genspect. The main heading reads: "Germany: A Glimmer of Hope for Sex Realists?" Below the title, the summary text asks: "Is the victory of the AfD in Germany a dark day for democracy or a glimmer of hope for sex realists? By David Allison." The bottom metadata displays the Genspect logo, "5 hours ago," and a "Listen" audio option button. In the top right corner, there is a teal "Subscribe" button alongside a circular profile avatar.

Yes, Democrats should try to defund Stephen Miller's "Office of Remigration". Dems should swing for the fences on immigrants & refugees in general. MAGA will be weak on these issues for at least the next two years. Use the time to build rhetoric and a movement for liberal immigration.

According to Jonathan Haidt, both sides are unreasonable. For example, many on the right believe that Trump won the 2020 election. But many on the left believe that trans people exist, and that racism is a real problem.
