Troy Jackson after Collins takes credit for rural healthcare cuts in big beautiful bill not being as bad as they could've been even though she voted to advance the bill: "Sen. Collins is like an arsonist who helped set the fire, and then she wants credit for bringing a cup of water to put it out"

who knows if jackson can win this thing but i am glad that he is making clear that susan collins's whole scam is to do everything she can to make life worse for mainers and then take credit for mitigating it in the slightest way possible

interesting that conservatives were militantly “we must reward hustle” when the target was affirmative action at elite universities and now, when faced with the success of south asians and other groups, it is “i think we are too meritocratic”

In short, the “Mustang” silliness is a dogwhistle for folks whose identity politics demands they call themselves Christians, but also think the Sermon on the Mount is *totally* gay. So they’ve substituted an imaginary manosphere influencer for the Jesus of the Gospels.

American evangelicalism isn’t so much a religion as a lifestyle brand for right-wing authoritarianism. But insofar as it still pretends to be taking guidance from the scriptures it projects its rancid politics into, Jesus is sort of inconvenient. Doesn’t sound much like Trump or Andrew Tate.

Aella has some solid business smarts and did quite well for herself but she seems hell bent on dragging the rest of the movement down into hell. Eugenics and befriending prominent white supremacists is genuinely ugly as is recruiting people into narcissistic systems of abuse such as the rationalists

This, but also, no woman wants to be involved in a gang rape. That's not something women enjoy. I know porn has destroyed men's perception of what is pleasurable for women, but the vast majority of us would not physically be able to endure that without a great deal of pain

Ellison has been going all-in on buying corrupt favors in order to further his rent-seeking enterprise, and turnaround is fair play. You put all the chips on the table for the MAGA shithole regime, you get to be wiped out when the tables turn. And Elon should already be in jail 100 times over.

The simple answer, btw, is to pick a couple high-profile targets and destroy them. And the painfully obvious two to start with are (1) Elon's companies and (2) Oracle. The Oracle Corporation is one of the worst rent-seekers in the US. And Elon's just committing crimes left and right.

The issue is that it has massive power consumption. To the extent there is water consumption that is a comparatively trivial consequence of just how big the power consumption is. By focusing on it you're giving AI companies a free pass because water consumption is not the actual problem

A hallmark of democratic backsliding is government leaders stealing from taxpayers and using public funds to try to get themselves electoral advantages. Backsliding countries keep the form of elections, but corrupt leaders render them no longer free and fair by putting a state thumb on the scale.

The case for government being involved at all is that you want to, in effect, subsidize the production of more degrees than the market will provide. If you don’t want to do that, fine, that’s a different conversation. But if you DO want to do that, why just duplicate what the market already rewards?

I think there’s a stronger case for pretty much the opposite rule. If you’re studying a field where you’re going to rapidly be making a lot of income, why do you need a government loan? Get one on the private market.
