The ability to pour hundreds of millions of pounds into a loss-making TV channel, bent on wrenching British politics sharply to the right, is yet another of the ways in which extreme wealth is trying to remake UK democracy. It needs to be part of any serious conversation about political funding.

Not a novel observation by any means but the irony here, of course, is that it is precisely the UK’s successful approach to multiculturalism that has allowed us to generate a brown white nationalist.

I'd go further and argue Euro membership is an opportunity not a threat whether in trade, financial markets, or how UK personnel could come to shape the ECB. Building a sustainable outcome for the UK in the EU has to look beyond FoM and start engaging with how to integrate in Schengen and Euro

YouTube may make these two breathtaking clips easy to watch, but they are the BBC at its pinnacle. Made without thought of profit, watched by millions at the same moment. This is what building a shared liberal culture looks like. Just one of the most beautiful things. RIP.

I remember being taught in my Cycling Proficiency test (aged about 10) that I was a road user, and therefore I was subject to the same rules of the road as any other road user. I was emphatically not a pedestrian on wheels. Which is why I still can't bring myself to cycle on pavements...

However, in an environment shaped by large external supply shocks and weak domestic investment, the monetary policy response required to restore price stability leaves the economy more vulnerable to the next shock. Without broader resilience-building, depressed demand and restrictive financial conditions undercut the expansion of supply capacity just when it is needed most.

Thomas Edison in 1910. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves on this net zero business, lads
Someday some fellow will invent a way of concentrating and storing sunshine to use instead of this old, absurd Prometheus scheme of fire.
I'll do the trick myself if someone doesn't get at it....
This scheme of combustion in order to get power makes me sick to think of—it is so wasteful.... We should utilize natural forces and thus get all of our power. Sunshine is a form of energy, and the winds and the tides are manifestations of energy. Do we use them? Oh no; we burn up wood and coal, as renters burn up the front fence for fuel.
We live like squatters, not as if we owned the property. There must surely come a time when heat and power will be stored in unlimited quantities in every community, all gathered by natural forces. Electricity ought to be as cheap as oxygen, for it cannot be destroyed.
Now, I am not sure but that my new storage battery is the thing. 167

I mean, at this point, it's fairly unambiguously paramilitarism. You've got a non-state actor using violence to further political objectives. It's flagrantly in breach of democratic principles several times over. Inaction would be the most ultimate failure of a democratic government.

Wide shot of the BRITISH MUSEUM. There are suggestions of fascism around the streets - tanks, barricades, an Orwellian 'Big Brother'-style poster on a wall. A voice of a TOUR GUIDE emanates from the museum:

TOUR GUIDE:
So the Tapestry tells acrucial chapter of our nation's history...

2
[Cut to interior of museum. A long Bayeaux-style TAPESTRY is on display, and the Tour Guide is speaking to a tour group]

TOUR GUIDE [smiling]:
How modern fascist Britain was created.

3
TOUR GUIDE:
The Tapestry begins here with the 2008 Crash, then austerity, then the AI Crash...

4
TOUR GUIDE:
...and by the end of the room it's just full-on fash.

5
CHILD IN TOUR GROUP [gesturing to the tapestry]:
What's this middle bit?

TOUR GUIDE:
This is the 2026 Battle of Legitimate Concerns

6
TOUR GUIDE:
[show a reporter standing next to the Dover protests]
Here's the media saying the government have got to do something about the legitimate concerns...

7
CHILD:
...About the failure of capitalism?

TOUR GUIDE:
No about brown people on boats

8
CHILD:
[pointing at boats crossing the sea on the tapestry]
Are these boats the mega-dinghies?

TOUR GUIDE:
Not all of them

9
[we see one of the boats is a giant yacht]
TOUR GUIDE:
That one's a superyacht,
carrying money from the American fascists to the British ones.

10
TOUR GUIDE:
You see really it's as much a story of convergence as it is of conflict.

[An alarm sounds in the museum]
DING DING DING DING

11
TOUR GUIDE:
Ok, tour over everyone

12
TOUR GUIDE:
It's time for the Two Minute Hate!

[They all leave the museum]

[ends]

It's been 4 years since the 2022 energy crisis. The UK spent £44bn supporting energy bills over that winter. We've had 4 years to prepare for the next one, to invest in a robust energy advice network, to build our capacity to retrofit homes. But we are woefully unprepared for the 2026 energy crisis.
