Given the rise of the new generation of conversion therapists through groups like Genspect, SEGM and Therapy First; it’s only a matter of time until parents sue when their child transitions and cuts off contact after they spent tens of thousands of dollars on the practice. Those lawsuits I support.

This is the best piece I've seen on the role that Heritage Foundation has played in the assault on public education. This did not come out of nowhere; it was a plan that was decades in the making, the seeds planted a long time ago and it's been the Trump admin that has allowed them to flourish.

It's genuinely fascinating that the US president keeps announcing that he just flat out doesn't know what trade is, he legit doesn't appreciate the concept of exchange and instead views economic activity through the lens of a dragon attempting to maximise its gold hoard to sit upon.

Okay so @defector.com has had an odd glitch since the site redesign a couple of weeks back where the wrong photo and headline are often put together on the main page and I was going to ask them about fixing it but this just happened and as far as I'm concerned they have to leave it as is.
Screenshot for a Defector podcast episode with the headline "Consider the Emotional Lives of Scallops" only the accompanying photo is a white gormless stubbled red-headed UK singer of recent notoriety giving a flat smile to the camera while wearing a washed out peach top as beige as he is against a flat background. So, actually, probably a scallop anyway.

The idea would be to avoid the blizzard-of-awful effect that seems to confuse voters by giving them instead a single story at a time to digest, while the overall effect of dozens of weeks would be to communicate how top-to-bottom corrupt the Trump administration really is.

As I was saying.
A screenshot of a thread of three posts by Alejandra Caraballo (@esqueer.net) discussing Democratic Party politics and transgender rights.
First post (2/4):
"The push to abandon trans people within the Democratic party has not been organic. It's been funded from the very top by the wealthy donors and consultants. Base voters on the other hand have punished candidates for attempting to abandon trans people. But the money won't be deterred."
Second post (3/4):
"They're constantly putting money into think tanks, media publications, and friendly substack grifters like Matthew Yglesias to get the Dem professional class to agree to abandon trans people. They've been banging that drum for 2 years now nonstop saying it's trans people's fault."
Third post (4/4):
"That's what this is about. It's them following the lead of Labour andopening the door to force the Dem platform to officially abandon trans rights for at least a generation.
You don't hate the donors and the consultant class enough."

A trans man in the UK has been banned in the workplace restrooms after he was forced to use the women's restrooms to comply with the new EHRC guidance. The women complained because he is visibly male and so they told him he can't use any bathroom.
A screenshot of a Reddit post from the r/LegalAdviceUK subreddit by user Dijstraanon, titled "FtM transgender facing two different issues at work? England."
The post text reads:
"Brother in law is trans FtM and presents fully as a man. He's now facing an impossible situation at work with his employer telling him that due to recent legislation he must use the toilet of his birth gender. BUT several female colleagues have raised a grievance about him using their gendered toilet.
His employer has told him that he cannot use the toilet while he is at work until they sort it out and cannot give him a timeframe to do so. They do [cut off] have disabled separate toilets.
In the mean time one of his female colleagues has accused him of sexual harassment because he was used their gendered toilet. His menstrual cycle meant he needed to use the toilet.
He's been with the employer for just over 5 years but only in this location for 18 months. The location is mainly male with just a handful of females, and his workshop only has male toilets.
I do not know how to support him and as he's not in a union there is no one to turn too right now."
The post has an orange "Comments Moderated" tag, 169 upvotes, and 134 comments.

As someone who has been covering transgender rights for years, let me be clear about something: When you see capitulation over sports, know that it NEVER stops at sports. And in fact, Turek illustrated this just yesterday when he embraced a federal ban on funding for all trans care.

The alarms are all flashing red.
Screenshot of a thread on X by user Jacob Coxon (@hilbertspaess) detailing his resignation from Anthropic.
The first post reads: "I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below."
The second post reads: "Do not underestimate the power of this technology. These will soon be superhuman systems that can hack anything, revolutionize any field overnight, and acquire real power and resources. We have all witnessed the progress in each of these domains, and progress is not slowing."
The third post reads: "The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt. If anything, many executives and senior researchers will couch their phrasing in the press to sound sensible - but I hear the same people express fear privately. No other human activity poses this level of danger."Screenshot continuing the thread on X by Jacob Coxon (@hilbertspaess).
The first post reads: "A common response is 'if they truly believe this, why are they still building it?' At OpenAI, many have not deeply internalized the civilizational stakes. At Anthropic, the stakes are well-understood, but they are locked in a race to get there first - they believe no one else will act responsibly, so they must do it themselves, despite the risk."
The second post reads: "Accepting this race and entering the 'endgame' is a hubristic gamble that should not be launched from a private company's Slack. Attempting to speedrun alignment should require extraordinary confidence that there are no better trajectories available."
The third post reads: "I am optimistic about the potential for coordination. Warning shots like the Hugging Face attack have made pacing agreements between U.S. labs more viable. I don’t feel like we’re on track to prevent a global race, which may require costly actions such as a temporary ban on improving model capabilities."
The fourth post reads: "If you are a lab researcher, I urge you to consider what the next few years will actually feel like. Do you want to kick off a superintelligent RL run without a rigorous understanding of its mind? Should you put your head down because 'it’s happening anyway' - or take this moment to call for different conditions?"
