just like the Fugitive Slave Act, conservatives demand that they can impose their evil systems upon liberal states, democracy be damned, but if liberal states so much as offer a mild disincentive for evil to make conservative state maybe Suck Less then it's unconstitutional tyrannical overreach

We've wreaked generational damage on the US, killed millions worldwide, & crucially killed countless Palestinian civilians by electing Trump & all because Joe Biden revealed certain folks fantasy-version of middle east relations weren't real.

There’s a lot to unpack in this whole discussion but I want to say as an autistic man: How dare these grotesque fuckweasels suggest that this has to be the way because they’re ND?!? How dare you imply my brain is so broken I can’t be held to the most basic standards of human fucking decency?!?

The people who underreacted to the racist smear campaigns and "MASS DEPORTATION NOW" signs and calling live human beings "poison to the blood of the country" are the least moral people among us second only to the people who actively voted for our oppression or worse.

Yes. I think the consensus among US elite pundits and senior politicians that the way to protect liberal democracy is *not* to punish elite figures who violate its rules is wrong. A norm starting at least with the Watergate pardon. The opposite is true. You need to enforce the law and Constitution.

NO!!! Electing a majority that's big enough so that Joe Manchin (or, say, John Fetterman) isn't the 50th vote is what keeps them from defining party priorities!

We have a big issue on the non-Republican side where people will just make things up about Democrats because "hurr durr, both parties same" get you a lot of clout with stupid people on social media. This is just wrecker behavior and people should pay a reputational cost for doing it.

i am genuinely bewildered by people who say that the rise of white nationalism in the republican party is a response to the "woke left." like, did the woke left cause pat buchanan's 1992 presidential campaign? is the woke left why steve king had a long career in congress?

on reflection I think a part of it is, even when Bush or even Trump 1 was going on, you could go to DC, go to the Kennedy Center, or the Smithsonian and it could feel like it was still you capital that the government was still doing good things you liked its an attack on that

If they had an ounce of political sense they would be lining up to take (undeserved) credit for the pending Democratic victory. But instead, they want to make it clear that everything the Democrats achieve electorally and in government will be done in over their objections and attempted sabotage.

The fatal flaw: Erin explicitly urges trans voters to withhold votes, claiming “A Republican victory costs one seat for one term.” Nonsense. Handing the Senate or Governorships to MAGA means confirming lifetime hard-right judges and eliminating veto pens. That’s pure wrecker behavior.

We did not have to abolish debate and parliamentary procedure to defeat the Nazis, proving Schmitt wrong! The “man of action” did not expose democracy in crisis for the fiction it was, democracy (with its institutions) waged war far better than the Nazis did.
