So like I keep wanting to float the idea that there's a major unspoken current in American politics where like nine different things are coded versions of "people are angry that they can't control their kids/grandkids' thoughts and lives" but then here it seems to have broken out into being explicit

USAID funded rap music, Kimmel & Colbert, Elliott Page, and hurricanes
Benny Johnson on x

🛑 Since USAID was defunded:

- Rap music is dead
- DNC is broke
- Communists have lost Venesuela, Columbia, Ecuador, Chile, Honduras, Bolivia, Peru, Costa Rica and Brazil is next
- U.S. Border is CLOSED, migrant caravans are gone
- Nationalists are winning across Europe
- CNN sold
- Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert’s shows canceled
- Dylan Mulvaney and Elliott Page can’t find work
- Lizzo can’t sell an album
- Nike stock collapsed
- No more hurricanes
- No more plant based meat
- The McRib is Back

Downside: The US now has government goon squads, and deploys them to try to intimidate voters into voting the way the president wants. Upside: They don’t have nearly enough goons. Not even close. They’re hoping fear will make up for that big shortfall, but it won’t.

Isaakios Komnenos is a very easy answer here. A military focused individual who was not lazy, fiscally responsible, was what was needed in the 1060s. Unfortunately, he got sick in a pretty dumb way while hunting.

If I want one thing from my intermittent fame, it is to be as fondly remembered as Peter Lorre was; a staunchly pro-union actor who animators kept putting in cartoons as way of middle finger to their bosses. I can think of no greater honour.

it is so clear that Connie Chan is only passionate about one issue and it’s keeping the west side of San Francisco low density and car dependent she literally tried to kill Caltrain during the pandemic!

Our economic recovery hasn't been felt equally. Low-income jobs were lost much more rapidly and have been much slower to come back. I am against RR Measure to increase the sales tax to fund CalTrain operations. I'm voting no on RR to protect our small businesses and working people, and ease their burden. If public transit is a public good, let's leverage local resources and legislative power to approach state and federal funding sources from a regional approach.

Yes! I've been saying, it feels like A LOT like Gunn etc's overriding approach to this whole thing = "Pretend there was a whole run of good Silver Age(ish) DC movies during that whole 2000-now period where we failed at everything but Batman, and THESE are now the next-gen/Bronze(ish) continuation" 🤔

You can really see the different phases of the war play out in this radar imagery. These first two show the damage from the most intense bombing, before ground forces entered Gaza, when the IDF was announcing the destruction of “power targets” and sometimes dropping more than 1,000 bombs in a day.

One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”

one of the ways the media shows which side they prefer, is which politicians they quote uncharitably out-of-context and which they clean up for even when what they actually say and do is offensive (the Biden story ran on the front page less than a week before the 24 election)

if republicans get wiped-out in the midterms the far-right (twitter) will engage in a race to the bottom in terms of who can get closest to going full nazi—sort of a zeno's dichotomy situation at this point, to be fair—because far-right politics cannot fail but only be failed.

I don't think some people on the Left quite understand *why* so many Jews react negatively to some of the language that is so commonly trotted out about Israel on the Left these days. Perhaps this (from the National Front's newspaper in the 1970s), will go some way towards helping you understand.
From the national Front's newspaper: "Support the Intifada. Campaign for Palestinian rights. Zionism is racism."
