Sadly that’s a good use of VAR. it’s obviously a foul and the foul is what let them start a quick counter attack into wide open space

I happen to think FIFA is corrupt as hell, Trump is corrupt as hell, FIFA likely would've suspended the red card anyway regardless of Trump (for some corrupt reason), but they were right to anyway. Balogun didn't plan that, and you can see him instinctively pull away when he feels it's not grass.

We need to stop calling them hydration breaks. They're quarters. When FIFA mandates breaks regardless of weather conditions so that broadcasters can show commercials, we already have a name for that and there's no reason to let them keep using a euphemism for cover

Proportional representation requires zero consideration of race and produces better minority representation, both partisan minorities and racial minorities, than any attempt to draw majority-minority districts ever could.

Main result: we find less persistence and less volatility in individual productivity shocks than much of the earlier literature suggests, but more heterogeneity in ability and match quality.

How much of measured earnings risk is really individual-level productivity risk, and how much reflects sorting, job transitions, and heterogeneity? We show that subjective expectations data help separate these forces.

This was a really good piece from Matt Bruenig www.peoplespolicyproject.org/2025/12/05/w...
In 1963, a family surviving solely off a median married man's wage would have an income that was 81 percent of the median family income. In 2024, such a family would have an income that is just 55 percent of the median family income. So hypothetical sole-breadwinner families went from being just a little bit poorer than the "typical" American family to being way poorer than that family. This is not because their income fell. It's because dual-earning pushed up the median so much.
With these figures, we can see that there is no contradiction between the following three claims:
1. Married men earn more than ever.
2. Their families have more income than ever.
3. A typical median married man used to earn enough money to be able to support a mainstream (i.e. close to the median) standard of living by himself. Now he cannot.Median personal vs family income Median Personal Earnings of Prime-Age Married Men Who Work 50+ Weeks as a Percent of Median Family Income (1963-

Most graphs of the fertility rate depict the 'period fertility rate', which is based on a single year's data and doesn't necessarily reflect how many children women actually have across their lifetimes. I've used data from the Human Fertility Database to show the cumulative number instead:
Cohort fertility rates for the United States, by age 40, 45 and 50.

There's a narrative that because the bivariate correlation between education spending and student test scores is small/null, education spending doesn't matter. But causal research has begun to show that this simple association is probably biased downward. Education spending matters a lot.
