I think there are stronger arguments for animal personhood than Kant ever explicitly considered but I think the idea that you have an obligation to respect other beings REGARDLESS of how you answer questions about their personhood is important

It's a somewhat odd approach and more "virtue ethics" than people traditionally expect from Kant but I think it's the right one for AIs: it is both wrong to think of an AI as if it were a person AND also wrong to use that as an excuse to talk to AIs in ways you wouldn't talk to a person.

Kant had an ethical theory about animals where he thought it was an impermissible category mistake to treat them as ends in themselves as if they were persons, but every "disrespectful" treatment of animals is impermissible anyway because we're obliged to not habituate ourselves for disrespect

I saw The Odyssey and I think the most interesting thing I can say about it I haven't seen anyone else say is that I can easily see Nolan's Odysseus becoming Dante's Odysseus/Ulysses; this could be The Odyssey as narrated to Dante and Virgil in Hell. I wouldn't be surprised if this is intentional
