It's vaguely weird that the BBC statement says "the cheeky canine gets his own show", when he a) had Hacker Time for years, and b) they were full half hour shows, not, erm, four minutes. I am, of course, still pleased about this.

I came across a VHS recording of an early Granada Good Life programme. A half-hour tasting and appraisal of supermarket mince pies. A mainstay of newspaper features leading up to Christmas, it didn't really work on TV. Lots of dead air while they were being eaten.

Of course aggressive marketing tactics were the biggest reason, but to get all existing Sky analogue customers to Digital within three years was pretty impressive. Even by the start of 2001 I believe most existing subscribers had already converted.
