“Wokeness is like the Old Testament, and we need the New Testament to move beyond holding powerful people accountable” is actually an unintentionally revealing comment, but probably not in the way this person intends.

Song of Songs IV www.wikiart.org/en/marc-chagall/son…
Marc Chagall's "Song of Songs IV" portrays a dreamlike scene with a winged horse carrying a couple in a celestial journey, symbolizing themes of love and spiritual elevation. Characteristic of Chagall's style, the artwork reflects a narrative blend of fantasy and romantic symbolism, enhanced by soft, expressive colors.

The Wood Elf language is not officially recognized and until about 50 years ago it was state policy to whack children who spoke it in school with a wooden shoe.

If you don't understand why the Pope thinks human consciousness is special and a machine doesn't have it, try reading his favorite book, I bet you'll find the answer in there. He's apparently read it many times, and has a bunch of it memorized.

Trying to come up with the most annoying Christian equivalent for this: "Why are there no images of the living God in museums? Because they only show dead gods, who are mute and blind (Ps 135:15-18). 'Why do you look for the living among the dead? HE IS NOT HERE BUT HAS RISEN' (Luke 24:5)"
Meme of museum with Egyptian artefacts saying "Ever wondered why there are no characters from the Bible, Torah or Koran in museums? It's because museums only display facts, not fiction or fantasies."Tweet after posting meme saying "paintings prove nothing, just a medieval artist wanting to get fed by a rich religious person. All imagined and done from a single fairy tale book, written centuries before. Where are the real artifacts? We have them for the Greeks, Romans and Egyptian's [sic]."

Thinking of sci-fi niches for the human race that aren't "adaptable," which is the coward's choice. I feel like we'd be famous for being good physicists. Splitting the atom before sending a human into space feels like it would be a rare sequence of events.

The scene where Shift tells the Narnians that they’ve angered Aslan and so they’re going to be deported and subjected to forced labour (“he isn’t a tame lion, you know!”) is… well, it’s quite close to James Orr’s suggestions about what this country needs to restore it (see the FT profile).

It’s a pity that so many people find “The Last Battle” unpalatable (for reasons I understand!), because there is some extremely sharp stuff in there about how theology and religious language and imagery can be weaponised to abuse people and to achieve power that feels quite timely right now.⚓️✝️

How could an associate professor in divinity at Cambridge be expected to know that lying is bad? thecritic.co.uk/mone...
Ah yes, James Orr. A lot of us had been hazy about what it is exactly that associate professors in a divinity department do all day. It doesn’t seem to involve a lot of work: Orr is often to be seen at Reform events in London, which take up the whole morning even for those of us with offices down the road. Now we know he was also sipping cocktails while discussing ways in which wealthy foreigners might be able to get round the laws that ban them donating to the party.

The associate professor of divinity was filmed explaining to an undercover reporter that so long as everyone kept their mouths shut, there was no way that the authorities would ever find out. Orr spent four years as a postdoctoral fellow in theology, ethics and public life at Oxford, and it would be fascinating to know at what point he developed this theory of What the Electoral Commission Don’t Know Won’t Hurt Them. Perhaps he was off sick the day they opened the gospel of Luke: “What you have said in the dark will be h
