The Cornell story got a lot of folks thinking about bystander intervention. We like to believe we'd do the right thing but few of us actually do - often because we have no idea HOW to do it. Let me teach you! It's free, cameras/mics muted & it's suuuuper practical info zoom.us/webinar/regi...

While we had fewer sunflowers than we wanted this year, we are always happy to have provided anything bees like. #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork 🌻🐝

From @atlanticbirding.bsky.social, today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Black&White, any shot in black and white. With that in mind, here's a Great Grey Owl showcasing their impressive wingspan! #owls

Did someone ask if they can "fire up a smoke" after getting their site set up? Did you answer by saying you'd never get your site set up without firing up a smoke? Did the camper look momentarily confused before asking again if they could "fire up a drone" later? 🫠 Me neither. #accents #emphasis

Camping is so much better with a beachwalk. Especially during the golden hour. #reflections
A golden yellow sun in the top left of the picture radiates yellow rays just above a chunk of land that sticks out in the ocean. The rays are reflected in the water below the land. Waves can be seen lapping against sand. The ocean stretches into the horizon, where it meets a light blue sky with wispy white clouds and hues of orange at the bottom as the sun is beginning to set. This photo was taken at Campbell’s Cove Campground in Prince Edward Island, Canada, on June 22, 2026.

The Luddites loved technology. They owned looms at home and would ‘mod’ them to count threads. Their battle was against worker exploitation. The degradation of their rights, safety and wages. They were against a handful of rich businessmen owning the means of production. Sound familiar?

How do you make friends? Is it also by using books to ask outlandish hypothetical questions? So far, 7-year-olds have given the funniest responses..... but to be fair, we've not yet asked any questions to any 106-year-olds. ( Thanks, @herring1967.bsky.social )
A book stands on a red post at a campground. Behind it, several empty green grass tent sites are waiting for campers to arrive and sit at the picnic tables. Beyond the sites is a horizon where light blue skies meet dark blue waters.
The background of the book is yellow. Red capital letters spell "RICHARD HERRING'S" across the top and blue capital letters beneath it read "WOULD YOU RATHER?" Smaller red letters across the bottom of the cover say "FOR ANYONE AGED 6 TO 106"

'Unfurl', 2023, acrylics on 20x24-inch canvas. Part of a small series of macro ostrich fern paintings. #art #painting
A large realistic acrylic painting of a macro look at an unfurling fern leaf. A large curving spine is dappled brilliant blue through turqoise to dark green, a reflective white teal highlighting the top to mimic light. The same colours are featured in the other spines that curve down from the main stem, each one covered in tiny leaf lobes. Darker shadows in navy greens give contrast, as do the stippling all over the stems to give the impression of fine hairs. The leaf stems on the right are less detailed and make it seem out of focus.

Some people say 'any port in a storm' while others say 'any shelter from the north winds' and that's how you can tell who lives on the northside of PEI. #OctopusGarden ....hopefully.
Standing at the passenger door looking into a vehicle, 2 trays of dirt sit in the front. One on the driver's seat and one on the passenger seat. Hopefully, sunflowers will sprout any moment now as the windshield faces south, and the sunroof lets in high noon sun, keeping things bright and a touch warmer than being outside where the wind is. This photo was taken at Campbell’s Cove Campground in Prince Edward Island, Canada, on June 3, 2026. (It is clear by the red clay dust on the passenger seat that this isn't the first time dirt was brought inside this vehicle.)

Female birds with confusing names.
A six panel comic of female birds with confusing names, featuring a labeled portrait of each bird. In the first panel, there's a brown-headed cowbird with the label "entire body grayish-brown". In panel 2 there's a female red-winged blackbird labeled "orange-winged brownbird". In panel 3 there's a female black-throated blue warbler labeled "not-black throated" and "maybe some blue if you squint". In panel four there's a female scarlet tanager labeled "not scarlet" and "also, if we're being technical, not a tanager". In panel 5 there's a female red-cockaded woodpecker labeled "no red cockade" and "what even is a cockade?" and "don't worry about it". In the 6th panel there's a female northern cardinal labeled "mostly brown, despite being named for the red outfits worn by Catholic Cardinals" and "not allowed to become pope".

Everybody knows you gotta guard your stash. #SharingIsCaring #ExceptFood
A ruby throated hummingbird sits on the edge of a deck railing. About 1 foot to the side, a hummingbird feeder sits on the same deck railing. (There are no other birds in the photo.) On the grass just beyond the deck, you can see a bag of soil and a round mat. Pat that is the pavement of the driveway. Inside the railing, there is a bench. This photo was taken in the staff corner at Campbell’s Cove Campground in Prince Edward Island, Canada where we love birdwatching.

A variation of the "Epic Handshake" meme from the 1987 sci-fi movie
Predator, showing a close-up of four men (instead of the original 2) greeting each other with an arm-wrestle handshake.
Each arm is labeled with the following text:
- Blind and vision-impaired people
- People with temporarily impaired vision
- People with slow internet connection
- People wondering WTF they're looking at
The words "alt text" are shown in the center where all four hands meet.

Signs of spring, ranked. An older comic. Feel free to argue with my ranking.
A six-panel comic called Signs of Spring, Ranked. In panel 1, #10 is Robin, showing an american robing standing on a lawn - not always a useful sign since robins are quietly present in winter in many areas. In panel 2, there's #9: Daffodil - nice, mundane, #8: Skunk Cabbage - unusual, cool, and #7: Dutchman's Breeches, a flower that looks like a pair of underwear with a hole - lol. In panel 3, there's #6: Turkey vulture migrating - gloriously ominous, a humbling reminder of life's transience, and #5: very very small bunny - wow, the little ears. In panel 4 there's #4: Snake sunbathing, with a gartersnake warming itself - underappreciated, looks cozy, and #3: Woodcock going peent - the perfect sound. In panel 5 there's a wood frog calling from a pond, and #2: small frogs yelling as loud as they can, with a wood frog floating in a pool inflating itself to make a loud quack - they crave love, or at least they crave the external fertilization of 1500 gelatinous eggs. In panel 6, there's a drawing of a spring peeper and #1, Even smaller frogs yelling, with a spring peeper sitting on the ground making loud calls - yes, YES.
