Keller is right that the world will continue using oil and gas well into the future. The relevant question for Canada is: in what volumes, and at what price? Oil demand is already rolling over in China. EV sales are through the roof in most of the world. And OPEC is ready to flood the market.

The best time to diversify Alberta’s economy was 20 years ago. The next best time is after the current big fossil fuel infrastructure project gets built. Definitely not now.

I can’t plug in numbers that match my actual vehicle (I drive a hybrid and only use it for errands, not a regular commute, I fill it every couple months or so). Feels like we’re rewarding people for making bad choices with this.

This is the third incident of a car driving through a residential school march in the last 5 years. Oddly high number of coincidences. When they drove through the one I was at, the police minimized and excused that one at first too. So I'd be curious what this investigation will actually show.

So this month the Toronto Sun published a piece about the Allison Inquiry that called vaccines "a crime against humanity at worst" and demanded arrests, and the National Post published a piece deeming Avi Lewis not just an enemy but a danger to Jewish people, with a thinly coded appeal to violence.

The big thing about the DULF ruling to me is that the police were using their discretion to basically set drug policy and we are going to hear a bunch of tut-tutting from the right about the courts doing it.

BREAKING: A BC Supreme Court judge has sided with Jeremy Kalicum and Eris Nyx, who operated an illicit-drug compassion club (Drug User Liberation Front), were convicted of trafficking, and challenged the constitutionality of Canada's drug laws. Trafficking section ruled invalid, convictions stayed.

Interesting to me how the VPD pushed the crown to lay charges, apparently because of concern about their own image. At this point the cops are de facto setting drug policy.

Not a fan of the cons obviously but it is a good thing that they’ve got a leader (for now at least) who’s actually against this Nazi shit instead of playing footsy with it.

The thing about “don’t you know how hard it would be to replace the security guarantees you get from the US” is that the whole thing is based on aggressively not understanding what the word guarantee means.

One of the ways you can tell Trump had a mandate (in the American sense of the word) is that pretty much every institution in American life got out of his way and allowed him to enact his agenda for the first ~year of his presidency. This notably did not happen in 2016.

Very confusing seeing disconnected replies in threads rooted at a big account that blocked me (I could look but I don’t really care that much, I gather the Americans are being tedious about the definition of “mandate”).

IMO the case for public ownership of airports (a thing I don’t think is all that important) isn’t that it’s somehow more efficient or low cost, it’s that you can prioritize things that aren’t maximizing profit.

I think if you want to make the argument, as many liberals are, that threatening to withhold your vote isn’t an effective way to change the positions of anti trans democrats, you must have some sort of proposal for what would be a better way to do that.
