There's not a conservative worth that label who would look at the costs of separation and view it as a wise decision. We didn't need a blue ribbon report to tell us that. Now, it's even harder to view Option 2 as a means of building a credible case for leverage when the threat is so absurd.

Interesting data from @davidcoletto.bsky.social at Abacus. Alberta is a province that “has been asked a question it did not want by a government it does not trust to answer it, about a country it is not prepared to give up, in the shadow of a neighbour it does not trust at all.”

The results of our deep dive into Alberta public opinion is fascinating. I really think people will find it incredibly valuable and insightful.
Here's my summary of what I think we found.
Alberta is a province right now that...
1, Judges Canada to be on a better track than Alberta
2 Feels more favourable to the federal Liberal leader to its conservative Premier
3
and...
Feels far angrier than hopeful about independence
4
Has been asked a question it did not want by a government it does not trust to answer it, about a country it is not prepared to give up, in the shadow of a neighbour it does not trust at all.Bar chart: Most Albertans say the province is on the wrong track; views of Canada are more evenly split

Car insurance prices in Alberta have far outpaced every other province

Alberta is now at an index value of more than 400. No other province is above 250.

An index value of 100 is equal to the average price for insurance in Canada over all 12 months of 2002.
