1/ So it’s official. Faced with a choice between whales and oil, our Prime Minister chose oil. Faced with a choice between a safe climate and more fossil fuel expansion, he chose oil again. Today, Mark Carney announced yet another mammoth oilsands pipeline. #cdnpoli #bcpoli 🧵

Earlier this week, BC Premier Eby stood by PM Carney as they announced LNG Canada's Phase 2 expansion. Today Carney stood by AB Premier Smith to announce the designation of a new oil pipeline as a Project of National Interest. Our leaders are sentencing our children to an unliveable future. 1/

In the second photo, Mark Carney stands in front of a podium that reads "Canada Strong for All" in English and French. Danielle Smith stands to his side. In the background is a collection of people dressed in work clothes.

Here in Canada we like to criticize the climate progress being undone south of the border, but we're not doing that much better. Both the BC provincial government, led by the @bcndpcaucus.bsky.social, & the federal Liberals, have gone all-in on new fossil fuel development. This is climate arson.

This is my neighbourhood & this reporting is lousy - as are the people leading these efforts. The traffic calming here was well-advertised, involved extensive consultation, and does not barricade anyone in their own neighbourhood. It has made the area much safer for people walking and rolling. 1/

@lucymaloney.bsky.social and other opposition councillors voted to protect people by reducing speeds on the streets where 9 in 10 fatalities and serious injuries occur. Starting in areas with high pedestrian traffic. This is "ideology"?
A tweet from @vote4abc saying:

Yesterday, ABC voted to keep Vancouver moving.

While the non-ABC parties on Council wanted to lower speed limits on major arterial roads to 30 km/h and 40 km/h, ABC chose to stand with commuters and residents.

Speed limits must be driven by common sense, not ideology. Let's keep Vancouver moving forward.
