A deep gorgeous story that sits in the bones and the heart. Read it. (Thank you, Robert Jago.)

I finally finished this short story - it’s set in the late 1940s and centres around these kids back from Residential School - the family tries to fix them, and in the course of it awakens the stelaqelm - a race of supernatural monsters… substack.com/@rjjago/note...

What can you really say about this?

This is the third incident of a car driving through a residential school march in the last 5 years. Oddly high number of coincidences. When they drove through the one I was at, the police minimized and excused that one at first too. So I'd be curious what this investigation will actually show.

It's finally kiwi-berry season. They're like kiwis, but they're the size of cherries (apple next to it for comparison). Also they had tiny cantaloupes at the market today - it's on the left by the 'ground cherries'.

I keep meaning to ask - anyone know - what are these things? These are at the edge of terra nova lands in Richmond. They line the entire ocean-facing side of Lulu Island, and I’ve not seen them anywhere else.

In 2023, I was working with a charity & we did this market to serve food/provide clothes/haircuts for ppl on the DTES. Pete Fry and Ken Sim said they'd come. Pete Fry came, Ken Sim didn't. 2 weeks later, Ken Sim had the homeless people in the park rounded up, their possessions put in garbage cans.

AFAIK there’s no example in Canadian history of a PM/Premier calling a snap election when the opposition has no leader (snap with new leaders, sure). No leader? Custom has been to wait. So how voters react to what’s basically a dirty trick is unpredictable. Eby is gambling with BC.

This is a British mockumentary I saw as a kid, called "War with America" - about the US threatening war with Europe after the EU lands troops in Quebec to protect it from annexation. It's been lost for ages and reappeared on YouTube this year: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYpA...

The EU has Associated status for member territories, as well as prospective members (it also has the EEA) - and the EU proper extends into North America, South America, and Africa (see map on the back of every Euro - lower left in the boxes). Law doesn’t matter, only political will.

Interesting discovery - in July an American Postmedia investor sold nearly $1 million in shares in a private sale. The buyer isn't disclosed. I found this while looking for their annual report. Postmedia's class C shares are surprisingly cheap and few. They have weird voting structure... 1

Second time I’ve seen a middle aged person doing this. Going down the street scrubbing out chalk that says Gaza or Palestine. They’ll ignore other chalk writing - but the words Gaza and Palestine seem to enrage then. Hate or shame or both - who knows. This one had like a 20 litre jug, cane prepared.

On 9/11 I was living in the Alps, just outside Milan. I had a long afternoon nap and was woken up by a thunderstorm. It was already dark and I walked into the office to use the internet - and saw the news and I thought Yahoo had been taken over for a movie promo. I thought ‘come on, not funny’.

OneCity opened an office on the corner and didn’t post anything about it around the neighborhood - meanwhile, same day I counted a dozen or so very large print: “Our Guy, Pete Fry” signs within 3 blocks. If you want to win, you need to PokemonGo to Staples and print some basic flyers.

My job at BCIT was with a union - great benefits and all that. I didn’t pay attention. Months after I left I got notification that a new contract had been ratified and included a pay raise retroactive to the end of the previous contract. Which meant out of nowhere I got a surprise $800. #LabourDay

Former Turkmenistan President Saparmurat Niyazov once changed the months and days of the week to his name and the names of friends, family, and his own book. That seemed like the most absurd thing till I just that Trump wants to change the name of the Atlantic or Pacific (or both) to America.

The way Canadians feel about Trump and the US right now, is the way First Nations people feel about pipelines. Especially when they're forced through our land without consent. And the amount you want to fight back is what you're up against with the latest Alberta pipeline proposals. FYI.

The more you see how the American elite talks about the Canada-US trade war, the more you understand why they lost so hard in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iran... The only data point they have is the size of America, its army, its economy. No mention of America's social license... its will...
