Statement from Superintendent Jeff Pelley, officer in charge at Kamloops and Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP, on apparent Second Sons white nationalist gathering on Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc reserve Sunday (Sunday statement from Chief Kúkwpi7 Rosanne Casimir: tinyurl.com/2wbfxay5)
On Sunday September 27, 2026, at approximately 7:25 a.m., frontline officers from the Tk’emlúps RCMP Detachment received a report of a large group of individuals dressed in black clothing and wearing white masks near Chief Eli Larue Way.

Our officers responded and engaged immediately with the group who subsequently departed the location and continued throughout various parts of the city.

The posting of a banner bearing the words “got bones,” combined with the use of masks to conceal their identities while making such public statements is a cowardly attempt to avoid accountability for actions and messages that are clearly intended to intimidate, provoke fear and division.

The RCMP is taking this matter seriously and will continue to engage the group as part of our response and current ongoing investigation.

The RCMP’s position on this type of messaging is clear, and such and we will continue to ensure that all offences are thoroughly investigated to support potential prosecution.

Anyone with information, photos or video footage of this incident, or knowledge of future gatherings is encouraged to contact the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment at 250-314-1800 or the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and cite file 2026-32566. You can remain anonymous by calling, Crime Stoppers at 1800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Statement from MLA and former BC Conservative leader John Rustad, who will not be seeking re-election next month
Serving this province, and serving Nechako Lakes, has been some of the most rewarding times of my life. I am grateful for every year of it. That time is now done.

We built this party from the political wilderness to the Official Opposition. Ordinary British Columbians put their trust in us. They believed a common-sense future was still possible here. That trust is the honour of a lifetime. I will carry it with me.

As with anything new, there have been growing pains. There is still a great deal of work to do. The party is in good hands with Lorne Doerkson, our interim leader. He is a quality individual. I have confidence in him.

David Eby did not call this election to defend what his government has done. He called it to save his job. I do not think the NDP anticipated what that decision would do. It has galvanized this movement. It has pulled people back together.

I have given this place what I had to give & I would give it again, however, my time is done, but the work is not.

It is time to pass the torch to the next generation. I do not hand them a finished province. I hand them something rarer. I hand them a charge.

Forge policy that will unlock the resources of this land. Put our people back to work. Keep families in the towns that raised them. Bring down a debt the NDP has made unsustainable.

Do not manage decline. Build. Build a British Columbia worthy of the people who live here, and of the children who will inherit it.

To those who take this work up: you have been given a great responsibility. Make this province a place worth living. We need a province that thrives, not one that simply settles for getting by.

I will not seek re-election in Nechako Lakes. I thank the people of this riding for the faith they placed in me.

British Columbia is not a problem to be managed. It is a place to be built. I have not given up on this province. Not on its land. Not on its people. Not on what it can still become.

The mountains do not quit. Neither should we. God …

Annnd worst kept secret is out: Former Global and CBC legislative reporter @richardzussman.bsky.social running for the NDP in Saanich South
SAANICH – The BC NDP’s candidate in Saanich South is Richard Zussman.

Richard has spent his career telling the stories of British Columbians as an award-winning journalist. As a legislative reporter for Global BC and CBC, he spent more than a decade covering the issues that matter to people across the province, including the COVID-19 pandemic, wildfires and elections at all levels. A six-time Jack Webster Award recipient, Richard has built a career connecting British Columbians to the decisions being made at the legislature. Richard is a strong community advocate and serves on the boards of the Lakehill Baseball and Fastball Association and the Victoria Curling Club, where he helps bring people and families together through sport and activity.

“Things are tough for people right now, and Donald Trump’s trade war is making things harder. He is threatening B.C. jobs and putting pressure on families and businesses,” said Zussman. “After spending my career interviewing leaders across all parties, I’m joining the BC NDP because I know they’ll stand up for B.C. and Canada by supporting workers and businesses, opening new markets beyond the United States, bringing down costs and strengthening health-care.”

Richard is proud to be joining a team that has a plan to keep moving forward: to protect and create good jobs, build more homes, recruit more healthcare workers and support our farmers and agriculture industry. While the Conservative parties would put B.C.’s progress at risk by increasing costs for working people, weakening environmental protections and taking a softer approach to Donald Trump, the BC NDP will keep fighting for British Columbians.

“Richard is deeply committed to his community and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team,” said David Eby, Leader of the BC NDP. “Richard joins a growing team of candidates who will champion our plan to free our economy from the U.S. control and lower costs for British Columbians."

The BC NDP says it will…
