I will add to this, the reason I say that if you're not in an electorate where the Greens are asking for candidate votes, vote Labour local, is because the right have ABSOLUTELY no issues voting like that. They're pushing for an overhang, don't let them get it. #nzpol

Hey, so guess what I did? 🧵 Can I prove Deloitte used AI to write this report? No. But that would honestly be the less embarrassing option. The research in this report is below par for a 1st year undergrad, where they even bother to show research. Let's unpack some of the mistakes I found. #nzpol

First sentence is why I lost my mind an hour ago and started this too long 🧵. What kind of swivel-eyed fuckwit adds up all the gross debt of all the different NZ sectors? The vast majority of this debt is what we all owe to each other Liam! Cancel it all out and you get $200bn. Why? [18/n]
Starting tomorrow, the Business Herald will launch its annual Nation of Debt series, tallying a grand total of New Zealand gross debt.
That’s all the mortgage debt, farming debt, business debt, consumer debt, student, central and local government debt.
It’s a big, scary number, closing in on a trillion dollars.
But in the end, don’t think it is the specific debt number that should drive debate as much as what we are doing with the money we borrow.
That’s where we should be putting the acid on politicians.
Of course, our debt has to be serviceable. We have to be sure we can keep paying it back at a pace the international credit rating agencies are happy with.

I’ll also say, genuinely sometimes this is not true. Doing bad policy can institutionalise bad practice in such a way that you have to undo this in order to implement good policy. It can also create massive negative externalities that will then require different policy elsewhere to deal with such.

A big fan of beefing up the consequences for breaches of the Privacy Act; as I understand it the maximum fine for screwing up is $10,000. The *one* good thing I've seen of National's u16 ban is threatening fines up to 10% of global revenue.

Reading that through losing my mind, I won't disagree with more people who got income from wages should be in Parliament, to put it just at Labour is incredibly silly. Even more silly to act like Opps are more wage aligned. That said I think all parties need more wage class members, even Greens.
