This really, really looks like a candidate and a local venue have potentially misled the Electoral Commission given their public promotional material and statements directly contradict what they’ve said to the EC…

Councils were given three months to redesign local government, incurring significant financial and political costs in doing so. Seven weeks after the deadline, the Government has hit the brakes as Watts and Bishop duck for cover ahead of the election. localaotearoa.substack.com/p/they-rushe...

They rushed councils, now Watts and Bishop are ducking for cover on Head Start
After months of councils racing to meet the Government’s extraordinarily tight timetable for local government reform, Head Start has finally hit the brakes.

The big question I have about National’s supermarket plan is why are they only proposing to break up the locally owned chains, and not the Australian owned corporate that is Woolworths?

iRex was a dog’s breakfast, but it was a better dog’s breakfast than the ferry solution we have now. However, Jordan Rivers is wrong here when he claims we’d have two new ports by now if iRex hadn’t been cancelled. The new ports were delayed until mid-2027 “at the earliest “.

Just realised that this isn’t necessarily a boring election campaign, rather I got so used to chaotic elections in 2014, 2017, 2020, and 2023 that to have one that’s surprisingly normal (so far) feels weird.

Local govt is in crisis, and I'm truly not being hyperbolic. The public supports high quality services and infrastructure (they do!) but they don't want rates rises. Keeping rates low actually requires a discussion on how to adequately fund local govt - but that's not what is happening here.

My read of the failed Luxon coup, as a former politician and staffer to Key & English: its backers were hoping he’d do a Starmer - see the writing on the wall and fall on his sword. The flaw? It relied on Luxon being able to read the room, which with his lack of political radar was never happening.
