At least #internetNZ is big enough you can attend the AGM and not leave as treasurer because you made eye contact at the wrong point!

All the people complaining this #internetnz agm is boring. I mean yes, it’s an agm and a lot of the work done is very routine back office running infrastructure.

Walking around the vendor area at an event today and all i could think is how the vowel shortage continues to affect tech startups. Maybe it saves tokens.

Mythos system card is 250 pages. Well worth reading if you have read all the other frontier system cards so have a good baseline. Things are going to get even spicier in coming months I suspect. Those with Opus and the right skills could massively magnify their impact already.

Sounds like there’s ANOTHER coordinated membership campaign by the same folks as last time. Throwing inaccurate shade with vague fears about internet “censorship”. Every vote matters, don’t let the loud voices dominate. Bring your voice & values: Join/rejoin InternetNZ today: members.internetnz.nz

My term on InternetNZ board is ending soon after nine long years. In my seat please prioritise those with a broad lived experience & real technical knowledge. We have values driven people, we need DNS/Domain name knowledge. I had real-world expertise with internet scams, phishing, abuse etc.

Everyone will make their own tradeoffs but when I depart I fear it will go down in technical expertise, rainbow rep, and number of women, — and go up in age, outside agenda, and unwillingness to compromise. If you bring what’s needed but aren’t sure if you’ll stand at least make sure to join now!

I’ve worked out how I conceptualise LLM/agentic programming: a printing press moment. It’s taken something that was previously very specialist and expensive and made it cheap.

A gov.uk webpage screenshot saying:

HOW TO SAVE WATER AT HOME
• Install a rain butt to collect rainwater to use in the garden.
• Fix a leaking toilet - leaky loos can waste
200-400 litres a day.
• Use water from the kitchen to water your plants.
• Avoid watering your lawn - brown grass will grow back healthy.
• Turn off the taps when brushing teeth or shaving.
• Take shorter showers.
• Delete old emails and pictures as data centres require vast amounts of water to cool their systems.

Science and tech/AI aren’t magic. You cant go making unsubstantiated claims and expect them to be accepted because “Advances in [science/tech/AI] will save us”. They might, they might not - but just blindly trusting or giving assurances is called something else entirely.

Wtf sort of timeline have I found myself in. … “In this paper, we identify directions in the model's activation space—persona vectors—underlying several traits, such as evil, sycophancy, and propensity to hallucinate.” arxiv.org/pdf/2507.21509
Figure 1: Persona vectors and their applications. Top: Our automated pipeline takes as input a personality trait (e.g. “evil”) along with a natural-language description. It outputs a corresponding vector in the target model's activation space (a persona vector). Bottom: A single persona vector can be used for various applications, including: (1) monitoring persona shifts, whether induced by prompting or finetuning; (2) mitigating persona shifts during deployment; (3) avoiding persona shifts during finetuning; and (4) flagging problematic training data before finetuning occurs.
