What if every city that declared a #ClimateEmergency actually acted like it’s an emergency? What if every city that committed to #VisionZero actually acted like they meant it, prioritizing human lives in decision-making? What if every city’s budget actually reflect their approved plans & visions?

I wrote this quickly at a bus stop and didn't realize it would go viral, or else I would have worded it better. But the point is that the media is too credulous about AI killing everyone in 10 years (how?) when climate change is killing people now and will only get worse (we know exactly how).

So, the temporary sidewalk along Scott is closed for "pedestrian safety" but what that actually means is "workers' parking". @mark-sutcliffe.bsky.social #autowa
Image shows an area of sidewalk adjacent to a street cordoned off with numerous bollards. A SIDEWALK CLOSED | TROTTOIR BARRÉ sign is preventing path users from accessing the area that contains 2 parked cars.

It sits on an MUP that links directly to NDHQ Carling so why doesn't DND approach @mark-sutcliffe.bsky.social & @octranspo.com to use it as expanded parking? Keep it free as an incentive.

Obviously let's continue to reduce, reuse, recycle, limit car and flight travel, call out content creation that promotes overconsumption, etc. But one of the biggest things we can do on an individual level is refuse to normalize it. These weather systems are not normal, even if they're now common.

Hope everyone is okay. Here is a list of who to call to report downed trees and flooded basements. Check in on your neighbours. Fingers crossed that the worst of the storm is over now …
We’re seeing heavy rain that’s causing flooding, downed trees, power outages, and road closures. Please avoid flooded roads and underpasses, and stay clear of downed trees and power lines.

Call 3-1-1 or make a report online if…
➡️ Water is entering your home
➡️ You see a downed tree or other debris in the road and it is not impacting a power line
➡️ You see a flooded roadway

Call 613-738-0188 (Hydro Ottawa) if…
➡️ You need to report a power outage

Call 9-1-1 if…
➡️ You see a downed tree impacting a power line
➡️ You are experiencing a medical emergency

For updates and information on what to do if you’re experiencing flooding, visit Ottawa.ca/flooding.

Remember to check in on your friends, family, and neighbours to make sure they are safe.

To all of the community associations and volunteers who put their all into organizing Canada Day events today, thank you. Even though Mother Nature had other plans, your hard work has not gone unnoticed.

"A motion to end the climate emergency declaration and associated schemes. Vote Reform, Get Reform"A weather forecast map showing temperatures of 30°C in Sunderland and 39°C in London.Heat-health alert for North East.

Significant impacts are expected across health and social care services due to the high temperatures, including:

- a rise in deaths, particularly among those aged 65 and over or with health conditions. There may also be impacts on younger age groups
- likely increased demand on all health and social care services
- internal temperatures in care settings (hospitals and care homes) may exceed the recommended threshold for clinical risk assessment
- the heat affecting the ability of the workforce to deliver services
