there are moral arguments against the death penalty in its ideal form but in real life you never need to get there. the prior question is "can the state be trusted to end the life only of the rightly convicted without torture?" and the answer is no

It's not new, but literally every shadow docket hearing, the Supreme Court is reinforcing its illegitimacy. It is not a court. It is not doing the work of a court. In the interest of the rule of law, we need to ultimately abide by its rulings, but there is no future without significant court reform

As we await Judge Kelly's response to the Trump White House's refusal to immediately restore CNN, MSNOW and Politico's credentials, let's be clear on the stakes: Can the government be compelled to obey a court order to allow a free press to cover Trump's dealings with a foreign dictator?

Yes. I think the consensus among US elite pundits and senior politicians that the way to protect liberal democracy is *not* to punish elite figures who violate its rules is wrong. A norm starting at least with the Watergate pardon. The opposite is true. You need to enforce the law and Constitution.

The courts should block this. If they don't, we should tear it down on the very first day of the next administration. If possible, Trump should be made to watch the demolition. This, the ballroom, whatever he does to the Kennedy Center and all of the rest. Erase it all. Full damnatio memoriae.

On second thought I think what they're actually trying to do is create the premium death spiral they've been long predicting but that hasn't actually happened. They're saying not filing a claim is evidence of fraud, which gives them an excuse to kick healthy people off the system and manufacture it.

The last time he promised something like this it became a tunnel with regular Tesla cars driven by humans at 30 miles per hour.
Elon Musk: Boring Company is working on a simple, precursor Hyperloop tunnel between Austin and San Antonio (>200 mph).
Due to traffic congestion, that journey can currently take up to 2.5 hours. @BoringCompany can reduce that to a consistent <30 mins.

Putting a drone launching site directly in the landing path for DCA is a stupid, dangerous, and unworkable idea. Trump clearly expects to lose a lawsuit and therefore wants to set up a pretext to argue that the arch is tied to national security. Which is obviously idiotic.
