Ooo, door code story. I worked somewhere where a journalist did a "how to spend a lot of money" feature - we had a trade giant plasma screen. They filmed someone entering the code as a "filler shot" but no one checked, video went online and welp the door code was changed straight away...

Yep. It’s how he managed to break through the average IT team/sysadmin and got this onto almost every corporate desktop - you used to have to be smart to do that (see: MS Teams journey of dominance over slack). Innovation often starts as shadow IT and dies there.

I would like to point out this is the least cursed learning to drive story in my family. My brother noped out of an intensive course (ghosted them) after 2 days (in his late 30s), my sisters instructor *died* but she was never informed so she thought the instructor ghosted her for being annoying…

So, learning to drive. I was silly enough not to do it in the uk (although not as silly as it seems for reasons I won’t go into). I go to a driving school recommended by a contact in PT. I sign up July 2024. Ask about automatic licenses - told they don’t exist in PT. Ok, fine.

Oh my goodness! I wasn't going mad! I'm having to weed out a few weird ones where there's a specific route priced silly money to make you go the other route eg Hereford to Long Buckby charges £45.10 for a return via brum and £146.50 for "any permitted" route.

Today's rant: if your customers cannot use your data, either because they don't trust or don't understand it, it is poor quality, no matter how many fancy engineers, angels or sparkle fairies generated it. Data is a communication and distillation tool.

So turns out there's a bunch of uk railway ticket rovers/rangers (tickets which allow unlimited travel over certain areas) which are now cheaper than off peak single/return fares *inside* the rover/ranger area they cover. I'll be doing some data crunching and reporting back.
