Hey @eryk.bsky.social, I really enjoyed your piece on the Hugging Face hack, and I was wondering where I could learn more about OpenAI rewarding collaboration language in model training. Any tips? thebulletin.org/2026/09/rogu...

Rogue AI didn’t breach Hugging Face, human decisions did
At the core of the Hugging Face hacking incident were a series of human choices that traded security for speed.

“It’s not about perfection it’s about direction” is a thing I said on the phone with a friend today, and it’s so cheesy I might just keep it

So much correlation between belief in one’s own unparalleled brilliance and nihilism towards humanity/the universe

One of the most important things when living in a set of interlocking systems which don’t actually work and don’t really exist to serve constituents needs anymore and you are only avoiding slipping through the cracks through constant creative ingenuity is not to blame yourself when it hurts

The way we know Apple Music is an A+ product they prioritize deeply is that when I try to favorite a track the interface doesn’t register it and I get a spinney beach ball of death 😌

The secret to using LLMs effectively is figuring out where to make them go slow enough that you can form an opinion on their output. Maintenance of your own judgment

By setting itself apart from the rest of humanity software engineering set itself on anti-science track and building coalitions with other disciplines is the only way we break out of the escape room now

I've spent just enough time thinking about music production, musical structure, and computational loops that the intersection of all three that strudel.cc lives in is a pretty navigable space. Seeing proof of learning = magic

A Chilean salmon farm now draws about 57% of its power from panels laid over the water, cutting roughly 136,000 litres of diesel a year and silencing the generators. With the noise gone, thousands of salmon have gathered in the shade beneath the arrays. Ecoportal buff.ly/CwczkbP #ShareGoodNewsToo

My wife wrote what is soon to be *the* canonical book on the psychology of software teams, and you can now order it! 🎉 And really, this is for more than just software teams. It's for anyone doing technical work, including scientists. It's about how we can empower people to do their best work.

I’m convinced the abandonment of platform and ecosystem models came from it being really hard to measure what’s going on in them, then us devising ways to make money that fit into simple* “line go up” equations *frequently extractive

Our obsession with software developers for so long has resulted in a collective pretending that they're the first/only ones to have a wide range of human experiences This is why it's so difficult to connect up evidence from existing domains to this space

It's early on a cold, sunny Saturday morning, and I have a contribution to the "can an AI be conscious and have feelings?" debate: the strong empathy I have for this recycling bin that partied too hard last night, and is undebatably conscious of that fact right now
Blue recycling bin on a city street in Limoges. It is overflowing with metallic plastic decorations, some bits have fallen to the ground and there are wet stains around them. It's still cheerful blue, the tinsel is garish & glittering, but the paint is peeling on the shutter behind it and it is clearly feeling unwell after a night of excess.

Okay but now that we've made computing systems that can make clusters of words and simulate human reasoning, what are we as humans doing to stay grounded and sane through this? 🤔 Because dawg we like to think we're pure cognition but our human reality is also physical, emotional, and biological
