Incredible to see the "experts" on resolving the housing emergency that Spain is experiencing! On every television! @telediario_tve @ANoticias
@tele5_noticias @noticias_cuatro The reality is that we have politicians who try to create decrees and solutions when they lack the preparation or knowledge to devise a real solution to the problem we're facing.
Spain doesn't have a problem of a lack of decrees. It has a problem of a lack of housing.
And as long as the Government keeps confusing announcing measures with solving problems, we'll keep paying the consequences of its inaction.
Subsidizing demand without increasing supply pressures prices. Regulating a market more and more without building new housing doesn't eliminate scarcity: it manages it. Taxing a type of rental can change incentives, but it doesn't lay a single brick either.Because housing doesn't get cheaper by distributing scarcity. It gets cheaper by ending it.
Spain needs to build. A lot.
More available land. Permits in months, not years. More density wherever possible. Legal certainty. Much more public housing and also private housing.
But the Government isn't doing what's necessary. It prefers to intervene on the few homes that exist rather than create the conditions for there to be many more. It prefers to present patches as solutions and load the cost of its failure onto owners, developers, and citizens.
The rest can serve to redistribute, protect certain groups, or change incentives. But let's not confuse that with solving the underlying problem.
You don't fix a lack of housing by better distributing the few homes that exist. You fix it by making many more exist.
Less propaganda. Less patches. Less obsession with intervening on the same apartment.
More supply. More construction. More homes.

Good news! In the current US economy, we have approximately five million households with a net worth in excess of $5 million, of which 989 are billionaires. That's a ratio of ~5,000 multi-millionaires per billionaire.

every 6 months the Trump administration realizes lowering tariffs will lower prices, applies this insight to one specific good, and then proceeds to never introspect beyond that. It’s honestly beautiful in its stupidity.
Today, I concluded a deal to substantially lower the price of ground beef for working American families. As everyone knows, under President Biden, beef prices soared at their fastest rate and the American beef herd fell to its smallest size in modern history. As we work to rebuild this herd and help our ranchers, for the next 90 days, the United States will allow up to 300,000 metric tons of product for ground beef to be imported with no out of quota tariff. We have a commitment that this beef will be sold at 25 percent below current market prices. This deal will reduce prices for Americans while giving space for our Great American Beef Herd to grow again. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Warsh Makes the Fed’s Reaction Function Unpredictable Again
Kevin Warsh on Wednesday put his stamp on his first FOMC meeting by keeping his promise to cut back forward guidance from the Federal Reserve's communications. The post meeting statement has fewer words; the press conference is shorter; Warsh didn't submit his projections for the dot plot; and he refused to answer any question that required him to sound like he was offering forward guidance.

People should really stop comparing the 4-year, 1933–1937 *build* time of the Golden Gate Bridge to the decades long *study-to-completion* timelines of modern projects. The Golden Gate Bridge took 19 years (1918–1937) by that metric!
Screenshot of page 3 of "Case Studies in Infrastructure Delivery" By John B. Miller:

"Studies for the Golden Gate Bridge began with a 1918 City Council resolution ordering the feasibility study of a bridge across the Golden Gate. The city engineer, M. M. O'Shaughnessy, approached Joseph B. Strauss, a nationally recognized bridge engineer to look at the project. O'Shaughnessy was not convinced that the project was technically or economically viable."
