Today, we at Google have a new product: what if you could could ask an app a question? Oh, we do that already? Well, what if we were a little bit worse at it? What if we also sometimes gave you egregiously wrong information? And what if it cost a billion dollars? Still not interested? It's mandatory

This is your daily reminder that Trump is an authoritarian seeking to overthrow our democracy. Right now, he’s throwing every noodle in the pot at the wall to see what sticks. He’s testing us and our system. He wants to see how far he can push. None of this is normal. Your anxiety is valid.

"Deepseek will scare the American government into investing more in AI" invest in what? To what end? Deepseek is open source, and I guarantee you there are already American and European companies planning their own version as Deepseek explained their entire process. This is the race to the bottom!

1000% this. Public libraries are actually pretty radical--free to all, and based on the idea that info should be available to all. Get a library card! Use your library! Those numbers often play into their funding.

Nobody—and I mean *nobody*—wants this.
Meta is betting that characters generated by artificial intelligence will fill its social media platforms in the next few years as it looks to the fast-developing technology to drive engagement with its 3bn users.
The Silicon Valley group is rolling out a range of Al products, including one that helps users create Al characters on Instagram and Facebook, as it battles with rival tech groups to attract and retain a younger audience.
"We expect these Als to actually, over time, exist on our platforms, kind of in the same way that accounts do," said Connor Hayes, vice-president of product for generative Al at Meta.
"They'll have bios and profile pictures and be able to generate and share content powered by Al on the platform...that's where we see all of this going," he added.

DANGEROUS COATS.
by Sharon Owens.

Someone clever once said,
Women were not allowed pockets In case,
they carried leaflets,
To spread sedition,
Which means unrest,
To you & me,
A grandiose word For commonsense,
Fairness,
Kindness,
Equality,
So ladies, start sewing,
Dangerous coats,
Made of pockets & sedition.

Do not obey in advance.
Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A critizen who adapt in this way is teaching power what it can do.
