stonewall was so powerful that the brick travelled back in time and caused the UK's Sexual Offenses Act of 1967.

Zack Polanski had the chance to show real leadership. He blew it | Rafael Behr
A toxic debate over anti-Zionism leaves the Green leader looking like a passenger in the movement that carried him to the top, says Guardian columnist Rafael Behr

I still haven't seen a single person be able to defend or explain why you'd vote against this amendment or why it was unacceptable. It's the smoking gun as to exactly what the Zionism is Racism motion aims to achieve.

What does it mean to be a member-led party when the Greens have 230,000 members but only 1835 voted on the Zionism Is Racism motion? Doesn't seem like you can claim the result as the iron-clad democratic will of the membership while dismissing the concerns of actual democratically elected MPs

Polanski is fundamentally not up to the challenge of bridging the divide in the party because his entire model of politics is one where there’s an obvious good side and obvious bad side to every issue.

So much online politics is this dynamic, in which an anonymous person, purportedly a Green supporter, cannot recognise that the person they are berating a former Green councillor and parliamentary candidate who was literally a leadership candidate six years ago.

So of course you can point towards a long history of calling Labour etc "antisemitic" and "extreme" for supporting Zionism and it's not a position you've just pulled out your ass to defend these attacks now, right?

I am not and have never been a Labour member or supporter. I am, for the time being at least, a Green member.

I hope that explains my greater involvement in one of these things than the other.

It will be funny if the Greens and Reform fall back under the weight of their own incompetencies, combined with tactical herding when the election comes, and so three years of "oooh, fragmentation" becomes "And it turns out it was all a dream".

one of my favorite Chinese religious beliefs is that there's a prominent deity called the Horse King, who is the protector of equines, especially for draft labor. Sometimes around the late Ming, a conviction arises that the Horse King is *Muslim* - and therefore you sacrifice lamb, not pork, to him.

In hindsight what's so remarkable about Thatcher was that she had a remarkable ability to hold the Tory coalition together, retaining the confidence of the right while anchoring them to a viable governing project that moderates were willing to participate in.

If I had written to a journalist telling them not to publish a legitimate piece of reporting, prior to Arday’s resignation, explicitly on the grounds that they should not want to “line up alongside” the bad guys, I’d be quite quiet about having done so.

Delighted to find out that the Milk Marketing Board had their own coat of arms. The cow in the Palisado Crown at the top is a particularly nice touch. Disappointingly generic logo, though - should have gone with something like "Praesentem mulge, fugientem quid insequeris".

We genuinely never had this problem prior to the mass adoption of smartphones, and it's particularly a TikTok thing, I find. Yes you would get the occasional wanker playing something out of tinny MP3 player speakers, but they were reasonably rare and got tutted at by everyone.

👇Great post this. Learning the recorder is a classic example of the importance of knowledge-rich learning that may seem pointless: it’s an easy, cheap way to provide children with the building blocks that allow them to learn to play many instruments quicker later.

It's bleakly funny in its own way that Keir Starmer and Morgan McSweeney took such an avoidable and predictable risk in order to appoint someone who (correctly) had the measure of their limitations and did not agree with their project:
Peter Mandelson: It's messy because the government doesn't do policy, generally speaking, well enough. It all starts with policy.Peter Mandelson: Fight Reform by being Successful Labour not Blue Labour

There’s a lot of competition but I think Tommy Tuberville is probably the most on the nose GOP Senator for the new era. Thick as pigshit, absolutely nothing going on upstairs, ex-handegg player, is called “Tommy Tuberville”. No. Impossible to parody. This would have been rejected by Veep.

There's a trope of the MP as glorified social worker and hyperlocalisation in British politics - does this carry over to other countries with single member constituencies? France, Germany, Canada, Australia, US? If not, why not? What about multi-member or mixed member systems?

Personally think the most important thing about Catherine West freelancing is that she is essentially saying 'well, I don't like the look of either of the known candidates and Andy is a pipe dream', a position held by a lot of Labour MPs but whose solution is Micawberist 'something will turn up'.
