Neurodivergent hyperfocus on old houses, the gothic, folklore & art (disguised as a book account). All opinions are those of a house with rats in the attic. Don’t ask about the basement. #HousingIsAHumanRight www.WhatACharmingHouse.com

Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing an essay, writing a eulogy, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing for 5,000 years.

As a child I was obsessed by a house that had partially burned. I went by it often. I knew the people were still there, I saw them; their skin, like the windows & walls, was blackened & charred. I had such concern for them. Because they were people and not ghosts. Maybe I failed this assigment

Our books have arrived! How about a little look at that front cover flap? #BookSky #GothicHorror
Emily Dixon's family is moving because of her brother's chang-es. Jarvis Vaulk feels strangely safe as a storm rages outside his home, while a twice-evicted folk singer will do anything to be left alone. And John Tillman?
He's confronting hidden evils in a house for his clients ...

Welcome to What A Charming House, a gothic horror collection about the terrors and desires that haunt us and the places we inhabit.

These 24 tales, ranging from horror to satire, confessional to fairy tale, and ballad to fable, together create a singularly dark vision of the home ownership dream. Because along with the vengeful ghosts and sentient abodes, are the everyday evils of greed, intolerance, and what happens when people are taken to the extremes of their beliefs.

Inspired by writers such as Shirley Jackson, Henry James, Edgar Allan Poe, Ray Bradbury, the Brontë sis-ters, Elizabeth Bowen, and Angela Carter — as well as folklore, religion, ballads, and family lore these tales of creeping ambiguity are, by turn, psychologically unsettling, darkly comic, and deeply human ...

Floral collage art. Half of the flower is cut out and showing negative space through an engraving of a garden (the roots, lower leaves, and the lower half of the stem is white), also surrounded by cutout stars. The upper half of the flower is the cutout of the garden engraving on a white background surrounded by cutout stars. Orange hand drawn stars sit upon the flower-heads.

It’s funny when you ‘forget’ an influence on your writing. All this time consciously we thought we were rewriting “The Martian Chronicles” and “The Demon Lover.” But it was really (or also) “Spoon River Anthology” by Edgar Lee Masters — which we’re rereading 20 years later. #BookSky #AmWriting

Visited the Museum of Un-Natural History in Walla Walla today… wallawalla.org/things-to-do...
The image captures a close-up, tilted perspective of a mannequin or doll's head resting against white, textured fabric. The figure features a smooth, peachy-toned face with a slight sheen, marked by smudges of brown or black dirt on the cheek and near the mouth. Its wide, green eyes are framed by heavy, painted black eyeliner that extends into a winged shape, while the lips are painted a vibrant, glossy red and are slightly parted. Dark, wavy black hair is visible at the bottom left, appearing stiff or styled, and a white, veil-like material with a fringed edge covers the top left portion of the head, with individual threads hanging down over the forehead and eye.

The head rests on or is wrapped in white fabric that resembles gauze or cheesecloth, characterized by a loose weave and frayed, tattered edges near the neck area. In the upper background, a dark object with a round, metallic button or rivet is partially visible against a lighter, off-white surface, adding to the scene's textured and somewhat theatrical composition.

A truly new voice, like a new cuisine, might not immediately hit your palate like Kraft Mac and Cheese. It might make you uncomfortable. It might not resolve as you hope. It might be abrasive. It might star characters you don't relate to. All these can turn into brilliant writers getting rejected.
