Had to postpone my trip to Brid because I had a docs appointment this morning which has been put back to tomorrow. I’ll travel over after that but at least it gives me an opportunity to post some of my spooky prints on here in the run up to Halloween! 👍🎃👍 Etsy link: www.etsy.com/uk/listing/4...

New profile photo. Me and some tree buddies hanging out in a forest.
A tubby and bald middle aged bloke wearing black and a brown backpack. He (me) stands in a forest of pine or fir trees with long reddish brown trunks (the trees, not me). A path of red needles winds its way between green undergrowth. The tubby bloke (me) rests his hands on a walking stick as he smiles at the photographer. He’s (me) in a place of peace and happiness.

Imagine having to do this in the hope that those responsible will stop poring shit into our seas & rivers 🤯 Shame on those dirty greedy feckers who are doing this revolting act of environmental vandalism. Good on Clare & Co for trying to tackle it.

🎃 Brand new work to celebrate it being October! 🎃 ‘Halloween in the Suburbs’. Black pen and acrylic inks on off white paper. Unsigned Giclee Prints: £50 +P&P Signed Giclee Prints: £70 +P&P Illustration size: A4 Email Nick at: nicktankardart@gmail.com 🎃👻
An illustration of a small old wooden house with a little porch. Its windows are illuminated by the light within. The house sits on a street in suburban America, it is Halloween. The neighbourhood is active with spooky goings on, ghosts in white sheets on the street and in the windows of the house, mummies amble about, glowing pumpkins on the sidewalk and porch. A black cat strolls in front of the house, a black crow sits on top of the little house. On the porch a little witch with her black dress, broom and crooked hat knocks on the door, trick or treating? Going to a party? Or an unwanted guest?
The illustration is done in black crosshatch pen on white paper, the pumpkins are orange with yellow glowing eyes in stark contrast to the black & white. Whimsical and celebratory…Halloween in the Suburbs!

I’m off over to Bridlington to spend some time with Silly Sally & my stepdad. Time with them always rebalances me and my brain. I’ll try and post more of my prints & originals in the run up to Halloween 🎃👍 No doubt I’ll take the place of Skeletor here who is probably a deceased skeleton now.
A blonde Labrador on a sofa attacking her stuffed skeleton soft toy. Sally looks aggressive (she isn’t, she’s soft) but Skelly looks happy enough to be under attack.

On my exercise bike this morning & I’m working out to music by these chaps. Not at all fashionable but I love them. My partner who is unfamiliar with them asks who I’m playing “A Flock of Seagulls” I say…“A Plop of Seagulls”? If I were to form a tribute band it would be ‘A Plop of Seagulls’.
Four young men in the 1980’s. They are dressed as a band might in that period, suit tops, reds, black and a massive temptation to roll those sleeves up to their elbows. Three of the chaps have relatively normal hair but one of them has broken all the rules and social norms and plumped for something never seen before. His shining bright blonde hair looks like it is trying to evacuate his head, jutting up at angles to form follicular tusks while another strand has given up and flopped down over his face, it’s as if he’s never seen a mirror. This is the mighty ‘A Flock of Seagulls’.

I’ve borrowed this exercise bike with a view to purchasing one. I’d like to lose a good bit of weight primarily for my own sake but also to shut ‘others’ from wanging on about it too. I’m looking forward to doing so & telling them to place their “advice” where the sun doesn’t shine. I thank you.
An exercise bike in my living room. Loads of ace books on the bookcase behind it.

Across the Causeway. Original handmade artwork. An unpublished Illustration made for The Woman in Black written by Susan Hill. Image size: A4 £130 Email Nick at: nicktankardart@gmail.com
A black pen in a crosshatch technique and black block printing ink applied with a roller illustration on off white paper. Areas of dark and light and grey to describe a damp and gloomy landscape of a causeway across an estuary. Two people sit on a wooden cart with two large wooden wheels, the cart is pulled by an old horse. The track is wet and pitted with muddy cart tracks and seaweed. They make their way towards a large Victorian house which is situated on a small island at the end of the causeway. The house looks dark and forbidding, it’s not inviting like say…Centreparks, I don’t think it has a fun water slide out the back. Rays of sunlight illuminates the roof of the house and reflect on the damp track, the sky is heavy with chunky clouds.

I made this copy of an illustration from WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE by Maurice Sendak as a gift for my therapist a couple of years back. I miss talking to her sometimes 😔 Anyhow, I made this particular illustration for her because it echoed one of her bits of advice “chuck it in the fuck it bucket!”
An acrylic and pen copy of an illustration by Maurice Sendak in Where The Wild Things Are. A little boy in a white onesie and golden crown upon his head hangs by his arms from the branch of a tree. Three ‘Wild Things’ do likewise. The Wild Things are an odd mix of creatures, they look like they’re put together from an assortment of animals…bull, duck, birds.

Railway workers report the signal box at Lugford as haunted. Talk of a constant presence, of being scrutinised as they work. Talk of objects being moved, levers being pulled. Odd voices down the line. A place not haunted by dread, but by unwelcome intrusion. – #CJosiffe #Ghosts

A constant recommendation.
J is for …
Jansson
One of my favourite imagined places to inhabit as unhappy
child was Moominvalley. I am still an unofficial ambassador
for it, telling young writers I mentor that they will struggle
to find a better constructed fictional world. I push those
writers into reading Tove Jansson because she makes
words dance, because she makes locations shimmer with
a sense of nature holding within it the not-quite-real that
may manifest at any moment. I push because she is one
of the finest storytellers, because her imagination still
pushes me. I hope that is all in Hookland, as no book ever
taught me more about the power of dark absence in a text
than Moominvalley In November. While the Moomins may
sometimes overshadow Jansson’s stunning lines as illus
trator, the sheer fairytale menace of her early paintings,
they cannot obscure her power to create spaces where the
mind may walk in hope of wonder
