photo taken looking up at flowers with blue sky above; painted lady butterfly towards the center drinking from a purple New England aster; goldenrod behind with a wasp on it; to the left, a blurry honeybee flies into the frame beside the asters; I was trying to take a picture of the butterfly, and there were so many fabulous pollinators around that someone was always buzzing around out of focus =)

Warner's hints about the Lord of Brockton's poem, Mamillion, are so wonderful. Her ability to evoke its tenor and some of its scenes and to make you want to read it is just extraordinary. What an incredible writer she is. Yes, all the superlatives, but all earned.

Stone troughs with calcium oxalate residues suggest fermentation. Six vessels held 160+ liters—evidence of brewing thousands of years before written history.

The gothic blurs and transgresses boundaries. And I'll be honest here, I'm just talking generally this is what I find a bit lacking in some of the resurgence right now. The gothic is messy, not neat. You come face to face with the monster within you. Lots of aesthetics, I want more am I the villain?

holeyer than your mama’s
