After this week's @railnatter.uk, I've had the pleasure of writing up my proposals for an extensive Leeds (and West Yorkshire) Metro for @theexchangeleeds.bsky.social - if you want maps, we've got maps! If you want an explanation of repeat station designs, it's here! Are trams good enough? No!
a line diagram of multiple metro lines linking Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and Huddersfield and everywhere in between. it looks sexy as hell.

Perhaps the head of the British Army should not be doing media appearances instructing the public to accept massive benefit cuts? Perhaps he should be fired for doing that, and replaced by a different Rupert who will keep his nose out of politics.

A powerful intervention from the head of the Army. Something is coming, and government needs to wake up.
He says the public will have to make sacrifices so we can prioritise defence and security.
This is no time for "national security can't come at the expense of social security". Hard choices are coming whether ministers like it or not.
I have been clear where I would start: cut welfare spending and put the money into defence.

A good man monstered to death by the media ultimately. Had he still been around I may even have still been in his party today; certainly the political spectrum was much better and richer with CK around.

the decision has been made to revert “the arts” as a category of human activity to the sole province of second sons and daughters of wealth. no funding for arts degrees at state schools. it’s a toy for rich people again. pricing the poors out of human expression is a feature and not a bug.

Just looking through a 1986 edition of Private Eye and just spotted this story about "Brush Strokes" apparently being plagiarised which I've never heard before. Anyone know anything about this?
A story about aspiring writer Tom Boyes submitting a script called Brush Strokes to the BBC, being turned down and then learning of the Esmonde / Larbey series a year later.

Very interesting chap who wrote the play on ITV at 9 that night! Benn Levy was the Labour MP for Eton (!) and Slough at the time and IIRC a founder member of CND. Before he went into politics he had worked with Hitchcock, and wrote the screenplay for the unforgettable "The Old Dark House".
