we've never had much reason to articulate this before a.i., but a reason we enjoy literature, art, music, etc. is that we know it is one human mind trying to express something fundamentally human and otherwise inexpressible to another human mind

A prophecy is upon me. Someone is writing a Dungeon Crawler Carl fanfiction. It will become the sacred text for a cult of thought leaders behind the quantum computing scam of the mid 2040s. Their sex thing will involve sissy hypnosis. I have paid a high price to bring this vision to you.

Journalists need to stop describing these incidents in terms implying software has agency and intent. It does not. The people who created a faulty and dangerous product are the ones responsible for whatever happens, and must be held to account, with punitive financial penalties for damage done.

Murder is down because shootings are down, a lot. Not every city/county reports but 96% of the populations did in 2025. Charges don't fit into crime stats. Homicides being marked suspicious deaths is almost certainly rare. Agg assault is an FBI stat, so those agencies are using the standard.

Jeff Vandermeer's ABDICATION, the last novel in the Southern Reach series, in which an ornithologist exiled to a remote coast stumbles on a terrifying secret,  a self-proclaimed king pursues a mystery hidden in a strange weather station, and a man who can become a cormorant is tasked with a deadly mission through a future landscape transformed by Area X, for publication in October 2027, in a significant deal, to Jenna Johnson at Farrar, Straus, by Joseph Veltre at the Gersh Agency and Alex Kohner at Yorn Levine (world).

There is a lot to say about the Nolan Odyssey movie. But one point that I think has not been emphasized enough is: this is a film about living in LA, as Nolan, my erstwhile British compatriot and age mate, has done for years. I gather it’s a strange place.
