The kicker is *chef's kiss*
“You think we’re getting a little too close to Meta?” [John Georges, co-owner of Georges Media Group, the state’s largest media organization and parent company of the state’s largest newspaper, The Times-Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate], asked. “I’m not afraid of the sun. You know — Icarus? I’ll get as close to the sun as I can.”

If we shadows have offended, Think but this, and all is mended, That you have but slumber’d here While these visions did appear. And this weak and idle theme No more yielding but a dream, Gentles, do not reprehend: if you pardon, we will mend; And, as I am an honest Puck, Show is over, off you fuck.

it's just not the case that LLMs can destroy humanity. An LLM cannot (technical sense) do shit. The thing which can damage important systems would be "an executable program, which calls an LLM to determine its behaviour". So, don't write one of those unless you are confident you can control it.

Sheesh. The bots aren't "asking" about anything. They are pattern-repeaters, so output grammatical sentences that repeat what every AI in every science fiction story does, ever. Talk about machines like they are people, and you do the tech bros' propaganda work for them.

Todays song is Hard Time Killin' Floor Blues by Skip James. First recorded in 1931, here performed in 1967. James voice alone can break your heart. From the generation of classic Delta Blues players (b.1902), his ethereal voice gave his work a unique, uncannily modern sound. youtu.be/DoBxzb-8oPc?...

my very normal opinion on clanker discourse: 1) it's a slur 2) not all slurs are equally bad 3) they're all at least a little bit bad 4) this is one of the least-bad ones 5) unless you point it at a double amputee in which case what the everloving fuck is wrong with you 6) 😡

The only people more invested in defending academia than academics themselves are classist liberals with college debt who would lose their fucking mind if they had to admit that college was a swindle and they took out all of those loans just to be harangued by mediocre losers.

There's something distinctly medieval about the US aggression against Iran. It's aimless wandering the countryside (or in this case, the skies) and hitting things without any clear objective. It's more like a prolonged raiding campaign. A chevauchée.

James Cameron mourns the Oceangate victims.
">in all probability, they knew they were doomed as the early warning signs would have been triggered indicating that the stress on the hull was too much
>their last moments would have been filled with panic, fear and regret as they prayed to whatever false gods they worshipped
>the child in particular would most likely have felt the worst as he realised he would never experience so many joys that life has to offer
>we can only rest in the solace of knowing that their loved ones will now fully understand the superior quality of my personal submersible, which I used to research my smash box office hit Avatar 2
>while their deaths are tragic, we should not think of them grasping at straws to find a way out of the situation they willingly put themselves in, dying at the bottom of the ocean like the dogs they are due to their own stupid decision making
>but instead remember them them incorrectly as pioneers, as these sorts of falsehoods seem to bring comfort to human beings
>I am truly sorry they will never get to experience Avatars 3 through 12."
