Just speaking for film & TV there isn't really a job loss due to AI. It's been mostly due to successive punches of pandemic, streaming collapse, union strikes, studio consolidation and interest rates. This trend was in place way before Midjourney was pumping out pictures with 14 fingers.

and, like, ontop of being morally reprehensible, can we just underline how staggeringly, stupidly bad a call this is? transphobia is BROADLY UNPOPULAR! Just go, "Hey, Elon Musk and Trump loves transphobia" and most normal people will go, "ew, gross" because most people hate those guys

It feels to me that they've decided some conditions simply aren't real, and they don't want to include them in NHS care never mind the relatively low costs, never mind the benefits, never mind the reality just: I don't approve of this & I don't think we should be pandering to it Daily Mail brain

The University of Toronto, by far the closest to Ivy League culture in Canada, banned fraternities in the 1960s because they wouldn't admit black students. Which is another telling dynamic of the history of fraternities.

Lrs: artists, I usually don't advise on pricing beyond "at the precise point you'd rather have the money than your art, that's your floor" but don't give up your copyright lightly. A magazine does not need the whole shebang in perpetuity to use your work once.

This is a lie, and it's a lie they've been telling since the 1950s. They push the story that technology will give the white-collar populace 4 or even 3-day work weeks, but that never materializes. 5-day work weeks with exponentially greater output expectations does.

If Lauren Boebert's district here in Colorado can vote for a reproductive health amendment that permits abortion without it being tied to fetal viability, then any red district can—and you will never change my mind. We don't have to settle for crumbs. I wrote about it here.

The viability standard failed us under Roe v. Wade. It doesn’t have to be the future of reproductive freedom—just ask Colorado.

The truth behind this and other weird chatbot quirks is that this is what engineers with little user experience training just sort of decided the use cases for it could possibly be, & it got baked into the way they’re trained. See also: planning your vacation, writing your email, etc.

I notice that everything the press doesn’t like is “social contagion” now, except for the escalating crankery of the press, which is an organisation of a couple of thousand people mostly concentrated in one city, who largely all know each other - one thing that definitely *is* social contagion.
