Some more foggy autumnal trees from this morning. Such lovely conditions :) #Fog #Berkhamsted #AwesomeFoursome
A silver birch in the middle with white trunk, lots of nice yellow leaves, and some fog in sunny light. Before sunrise a foggy-ish scene with a smattering of yellow leaves and some orange and green ferns.Backlit woodland scene with a path to the right and some bushes covered in cobwebs.Lovely pendulous silver birch side-lit by the sun and a bit foggy. Touches of yellow leaves.

Had a great time at #Wayword book festival today (Sea Shanties; Katalina Watt & Anbara Salam; Hannah Kaner & Georgia Leighton), and what incredible views there are from the top floor of the Duncan Rice library! Picked up Anbara's queer marine archaeologist book because I mean, of course?!

Absolutely magical up at Frithsden Beeches this morning. Autumn is such a beautiful time of year to be in woodlands. #Berko #Fog #TreesinMist
A large pendulous silver birch tree with some yellow leaves and big dead branch visible falling behind. Below are ferns - mostly green but some yellow and red ones. Behind it is foggy and bright.

Just saw Larry Dean's show and it was brilliant. I usually don't enjoy people being rude about Birmingham because it's often lazy but if you've gone to the trouble of marrying a guy from the Black Country first then I know you're not just picking an easy punchline

What I always find fascinating about this stuff is that the "non-brewed condiment" label isn't, as you'd think, to do with modern food-labelling laws. It's because of the temperance movement more than a century ago.

In the motorcycle’s sidecar, a dog that looks like a heeler mix stands at attention with his front paws up on the front of the sidecar, his eyes protected by a set of khaki motorcycle goggles. The dog is wearing a harness that sort of looks like a biker vest. He appears to be having the time of his life.

I saw this sign posted on Tumblr and thought "is that a chainsaw, or is it in fact an extremely hardcore duck?"
A photo of a sign that indicates "no chainsaws allowed", made from a stylized image of a chainsaw surrounded by a red circle with a diagonal line through it. The photo was taken by the person who runs the qualitysigns.tumblr.com blog in Doncaster, UK, in 2025. A picture of a duck by me. The duck's head is shaped like the chainsaw from the sign in the previous image and the rest of the duck is spiky and studded to match. The caption says "chainsaw duck".

An ancient and magical amber bear 🐻 ✨ Carved some 10,000 years ago, it washed up on a beach at Fanø in Denmark from a submerged Mesolithic settlement under the North Sea. National Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows a small and ancient figurine of an amber bear carved some 10,000 years ago during the Danish Mesolithic period. The museum lighting makes the amber glow translucent orange against a dark display case background. The bear is displayed on a small metal stand viewed in profile facing right. The ears, muzzle, and mouth are defined. The neck has a polished groove suggesting it was once suspended on a cord. The characteristic shoulder hump of a brown bear is clearly defined. There are some finely incised horizontal lines along the belly. The legs are incomplete. Length 6.5cm. Amber has many properties which may have been associated with 'magic' for ancient peoples. For example, when rubbed against fur, amber produces static electricity which can give off sparks in the dark, make hair stand on end, and attract small things towards it.
The bear was found in 1991 on a west coast beach of the Danish North Sea island of Fanø. It is one of a small number of amber animal figurines from the Baltic Sea region which have been assigned to the Mesolithic period by means of a typo-chronological approach and /or other contextual information.
