One of the biggest obstacles to trans inclusivity in fieldwork is uncertainty. Here's a video of me talking about it but you can also read about it at inclusivefieldwork.leeds.ac.uk

Having these resources from inclusivefieldwork.leeds.ac.uk/trans printed physically really emphasises how much has gone into them!
A pile of thin paperback books

There's something about creating a nice physical copy of an output that really helps with closure on a project. So worth it!

If you're outside the UK and haven't been sharing these resources because they aren't local to you, please share them anyway. They weren't made to be country-specific and I promise your country has trans people too!

This is brilliant and very useful for allies, because if there ever was a need to support our trans communities world wide, it is right now.

Saying 'most' tree-planting is unnecessary seems a tad excessive. Natural regeneration is a hugely important and underutilised tool in woodland creation but there are lots of reasons why it might not be the first-choice or sole approach.

Side note: Over half a decade later & the sexist description remain... 🙄 Mens🚹: great for outdoors, moulded outsole, traction grip, fabric insock, supportive calf... Womens🚺: high top with ✨ contrasting chunky sole ✨ (no joke) +30% more $$ Damn it, some of us ladies just wanna catch bugs! 🙃
A product description screenshot that reads:
"Dunlop Mens Wellingtons
The Mens Dunlop Wellies are great for working outdoors or when the weather turns icy and snowy, benefiting from a moulded outsole with traction grip whilst the fabric insock offers extra comfort, teamed with a sloping calf for a supportive feel when walking and are complete with the classic Dunlop emblem to each side."A product description screenshot that reads:
"Dunlop Ladies Wellington

Don't let the weather get in the way when you have the Dunlop Ladies Wellingtons. The waterproof design with a high top allows you to wade and walk through the puddles and mud feeling comfortable and dry. Finished with Dunlop branding and a contrasting chunky sole."

"Most reasonable adjustments a trans+ person might ask for will also apply to other disadvantaged groups. " <- 𝙏𝙃𝙄𝙎! Clothing part really spoke to me! Vividly remember the hassle of special ordering field wellies (coincidentally while at Leeds😆) as they only came in men or junior sizes in-store...
A picture of me sitting along a river wearing wellies, doing field work with a D-net/kick net to collect aquatic and riparian invertebrates.

A circle is drawn around my boots with an arrow, captioned "These exact boots! Yes I still wear them today! XD").

More photos from that field work here https://bsky.app/profile/rebeccawang.bsky.social/post/3mkwnywmlq222 Photo of me with a butterfly net in hand while doing field work, wearing the same aforementioned boots that were a hassle to order.

Having something that looks authoritative can also make a big difference as a resource when advocating for trans inclusivity, so here's a version that goes one step further than our university website and can actually be printed and cited academically: doi.org/10.17613/355...

Super-important, comprensive #fieldwork guidance for #trans+ researchers, incuding those who are non-binary & gender non-conforming. I love that the guidance stresses the importance of maintaining one's own agency, and that the guidelines are relevant for disadvantaged groups generally 🧪
