This is preposterous as it is monstrous Pike survived the execution procedure and now her lawyers, unable to reach the governor or state AG office, are rushing an emergency motion to the Tennessee Supreme Court in their *car* seeking an order to get her medical care

I am not joking when I say this.
Spotify, Apple Music, and streaming in general is over.
Al music is now very, very good. You just don't know yet because all Al music circulating today is from ~2-3 generations ago.
Suno v6 pro et al has solved infinite personalized music.

Load-bearing 500TB Dropbox is far and away a pretty hyperbolic corner case. Most organizations get by with load-bearing 2TB SharePoint or load-bearing Windows Server 2003 R2.

Are Linux and Open Source Un-American?
Community
by Steve Coe
on February 21, 2001

Jim Allchin, Microsoft Windows operating system chief, was quoted in an article about open source last week. I advise any Linux user to go and read it if you haven't already, as it's great comedy material.

According to the hive mind of Microsoft, open source should be made illegal. There's no way around it, this is the bottom line. Want to write your own code and release it into the community? Congratulations, come with us Sir/Madam, we have this nice little grey room for you. Don't worry about the bars on the windows, they are there for our protection in case you somehow manage to write a graphics viewer or a Perl script to terrorize the world.

Ordinarily, a mere underling like Mr. Allchin wouldn't be taken too seriously, but Microsoft speaks with one voice, and we all know who he is channeling.

As a member of the Linux and Open Source communities, I am appalled and outraged by his comments and wish to respond. The article shows Microsoft is scared. Very scared. So, will they build a better product? Nah, to hell with it, they'll just get the government to outlaw the competition.

This story has the energy of some apocryphal tale from the early aughts but then you see the post dates and realize it's from 2019. And these "design decisions" were likely made only a couple of years prior to the post. Less than a decade removed from load-bearing 500TB Dropbox.

Had to dig it up for a Signal group so I'll drop it here too. If you haven't read the Reddit thread about the sysadmin who discovered the entire prod system ran out of a 500TB Dropbox that everyone had read/write access to, block off some time in your calendar: www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/c...
