Russia's goals in 2016 weren't to use the US as an ally. It was to fracture and discredit the US draw our external attention inward, and punch Clinton in the nose in the process. Gains would have been significantly more modest if Russia had gotten its hands on the levers of the government.

One of the issues with AI is that specific communities of people only interact with AI through the things it's least suited to do - produce communications output on very few tokens without need for any kind of revision. Those people assume that bad at a thing that seems easy means bad at all things.
