The snails are on our side. My husband’s workmate swears he found this flyer in his letterbox in this state.
A photo of a pink, yellow and blue ACT party flyer which was left in a letterbox for a few days. Snails have neatly chomped David Seymour out of the flyer. It looks like Nicole McKee has divorced him and ripped him out of the photo in a fit of rage. We sympathise.

today on webworm, a guest piece from a former american high school teacher on active shooter drills and why they no longer wanted to prepare for warfare (please RT, if you can): www.webworm.co/survivalsimu...
But about halfway through my teaching career, something brutal became clear: my role as a teacher wasn’t just about nurturing creative humans anymore. It was about keeping them alive. Somewhere along the years, “lockdown drills” quietly became “active shooter drills,” as if we’d collectively accepted the reality that this isn’t hypothetical anymore. It’s coming. After the drills, it was difficult to return to learning, so most of the time they'd want to map out escape routes. We’d discuss which heavy-duty art tools could double as weapons. Most of the time, students would self-designate their role in the hypothetical chaos. Some would volunteer to be the fighters, the students who would attack an active shooter. The blockers, furniture-movers that would barricade our classroom doors so an active shooter couldn't break through the door. And then there were the quiet ones, frozen, absorbing the unthinkable notion that they might die, and that their beloved teacher would throw her body over theirs to shield them from gunfire. Writing this now, it reads like a war manual. But that’s exactly what it was.

13 health professional bodies have released a statement in opposition to restrictions on access to puberty blockers. Signatories include the Colleges of Child and Youth Health Nurses, of Clinical Psychologists, and the Paediatric, Endocrine, and Psychological societies. patha.nz/News/13484154
We support the continued use of puberty blockers in gender affirming care in Aotearoa New Zealand, in line with the WPATH Standards of Care version 8 & the Aotearoa New Zealand Guidelines for Gender Affirming Healthcare. This is consistent with the MoH’s position statement, which specifies that clinicians who initiate puberty blockers should be experienced in providing gender-affirming care & have input from relevant multidisciplinary fields. As with any other specialty service, this care should be provided by professionals with appropriate expertise.
We do not support banning the use of puberty blockers for gender affirming care, or severely restricting access to this care, for example by limiting access to those enrolled in a clinical trial. Requiring adolescents to participate in a research project as a prerequisite for accessing care that is supported by major national and international professional
bodies and has an evidence base comparable to other similar forms of paediatric care would be coercive and ethically inappropriate. The MoH Evidence Brief identified that any evidence of harm associated with providing puberty-blocking medication is limited and inconclusive, and withholding this care may exacerbate gender dysphoria and negatively impact mental health. Equitable and non-discriminatory access to this care should be provided and maintained throughout the country. Decisions about prescribing puberty blockers should continue to be made collaboratively between young people, their families or support people, and the health professionals involved in their care. These decisions are individualised, based on informed consent, and guided by professional training, clinical experience, and the best available evidence. Any move to restrict access to puberty blockers would be a political decision and not one based on clinical guidance from health experts in New Zealand and international best practice. Medical decisions should remain free from political interference.
