I have to go make my bed and then go to bed and then go to sleep. I am 51 years old. You'd think I'd have this kind of routine down by now.

I love how much the fine people of #Kikorangi enjoy their kai. And it doesn’t matter if you mentioned an ingredient and everyone offers up their family recipes or you’ve stated an opinion on which is the best *mite, or whether peas belong in macaroni cheese… We just really want to share. (Marmite)

Second PSA for the evening: Cauliflower is cheap right now. You can turn a classic into an “I can’t choose” hybrid and make macaroni AND cauliflower cheese. And if you really want to go overboard, you can add some Gochujang to your cheese sauce. (I also added a little miso. I’m sorry. Try it.)

#Kai Dinner.
Gochujang Macaroni and Cauliflower Cheese except I used veggie spirals pasta. Served with a salad where I tried to go a bit fancy and cut the carrot and tomato into flowers.

We claimed our free knife from NW today. Now the challenge is to free the knife from its packaging... easier said than done. R is fighting it now, it was too difficult for me. But I'm looking forward to my promised paper thin slices of veges once he manages to get it free.

I got approval for the new photos, so we have new products available over at @birdandbeach.bsky.social . These ones feature R's work. (Even though you can see his name clearly in the quoted post, it still feels WRONG to say his name in full on here after so many years. 😅)

Ryan hasn't approved the product shots yet, so consider this a sneak peak of what's to come - Across the motu tea towels, coming to the Bird and Beach website very soon! (And I've just noticed something I need to change in the image file, but c'est la vie!)

Psssst tomorrow is a wallet sewing kind of day, if you happened to need a new wallet. (Special price is until the end of the month, so you only have a couple more days to take advantage of the deal - great chance to stock up on presents ahead of the giving season!)

Watching Ted Lasso last night, as you do, and not really being a ball sport person (I don’t have the eyes or the legs for catching or running) I suddenly started wondering… Did they find actors who are good at soccer, soccer players who wanted a bash at acting, or are the key shots body doubles?

The clouds have been weird this afternoon, but I think we’re about to get treated to a banger of a sunset.
The clouds above the Western Hutt Hills are aglow. There is a patch of blue sky, then the clouds overhead are ominous.

This month's challenge was Blue and Shadey. My design was influenced by pancake ice, that I encountered in the Ross Sea, Antarctica. Next month's challenge is yellow and nature. #art #fabric #reuse #recycle #quilt #sew 🇳🇿🪡🧵🧶
Rough pale blue fabric curved shapes with dark indigo shadowing around the edges. The shapes collide with each other, and have a bit of room around the edges.Detail of the oval shape, small speckles of glitter sparkle in the light, reminding me of the frozen Ross Sea, in Antarctica.

Tonight’s adventure with not-meat, is not-meat at all. I’m making chocolate chip cookies from a recipe in Cookie Monster’s book. It seems to be quite a generous recipe, so half of it is going into the freezer. The rest needs to chill for an hour.
Book: Cookie Monster’s Guide to Life - the Joy of Cookies. There is a photo of Cookie Monster looking pensive, and a large bite out of the top right corner. The ingredients in my mixer. The butter, sugar and eggs have been beaten together, and the dry ingredients (including chocolate chips) measured out on top. The dough rolled into three logs ready for chilling. The two smaller ones are in cling wrap to go in the freezer, the half-batch roll at the front into the fridge.

Is it still proportional representation voting for BOTY? I used to love voting, I even was a campaign manager one year… My chosen bird grows up on the same river I did. Easy choice. But how to choose 4 more amongst all the others when they’re all my favourite?? It’s too stressful for me!

We’re out and about taking photos for @birdandbeach.bsky.social inspiration today, but 20 years ago all the cameras were focused on us.
A bride and groom side on; they are holding very long beeswax candles and wearing Orthodox wedding crowns and looking very serious. The bride and groom leaving the church, each carrying a giant candle, and gazing at each other. The bride is carrying a bouquet made from anthuriums/flamingo flowers. The bride and groom standing in the grounds of St Simon and St Jude’s church. It is very rural. Elisabeth’s parents’ free-range rooster and chooks have wandered over for a look.
