Strong mayor powers are a thing she can use, sure. The issue is she's not dumb, and the moment she uses them for anything Drug Ford doesn't like, he'll just pass legislation to overrule it.

It's very very difficult to compare NYC to Toronto. 1. I agree we could and should do more faster. 2. We can't do nearly as much as Mamdani does because he has way more power than a Toronto Mayor ever could. It would require constitutional change at a level that there will never happen in Canada.

Just like AI is squeezing out software developers, it will now squeeze out a lot of artists. Sure, good artists will still find a market, but it will shrink and it will be harder to make money as one. Most people just don't care once the technology gets good enough. I hate this timeline. 4/4

I only want to listen to novel, unique music written and performed by actual humans (OK, EDM uses computer sequencing, but setup by humans). AI is none of that. However, I don't know how many people who actually just listen to music will actually care. 3/4

The reason I even noticed is because once I like one song, Google kept recommending me more of the same music but from different "artists". Same vocals, same underlying composition. It triggered something in me that made me look into it. 2/4

So much respect for this, and the framing. ABC, the right wing version of Progress Toronto, has used health care workers/hospitals as reason to rip them out. This puts a lie to that (and on University ambulances can bypass cars in the wide bikelanes if needed). So many lies.

Damn, Camille does not mince words 🔥
Finally, we come to people. This one is just depressing. Has AI made anything easier about the people management/people skills era? If it has, it has been swamped by all of the new interpersonal challenges we’re hitting thanks to AI.

To start, there’s the increased expectations. Many companies think that that increased visibility and waves hands AI productivity means managers can start to manage far larger teams, with no help coming as we reduce managers and don’t hire new ones. And of course, some companies are also expecting managers to write code because that is apparently the only individual contribution that matters (the idea that managers don’t make valuable individual contributions to companies is so mind-boggling I could write a whole additional piece on it). And while you’re doing this, you have to manage the AI transition: make sure your team is using AI enough, not too much, and soothe their anxiety, and deal with their impatience, and you too have to use it but no one is bothering to teach you how to use it well or soothe your anxiety, you are just expected to figure it the f* out.

So is it any wonder 1 in 3 managers are considering going back to individual contribution roles? Hell, if you’re going to ask me to write code and manage a huge team of people, I might just prefer to say, thanks, writing code is enough for me so I’ll go back to doing that.

This section of Jim Stanford’s recent article is particularly important for Canadians to keep in mind. #CanadaStrong #Never51 #cdnpoli #CdnEcon
TORONTO STAR <

‘Canada can't survive without the U.S.’

This is Trump's biggest, and most dangerous, lie, and getting us to believe it is central to his intimidation strategy.
Despite reduced U.S.-bound exports, Canada's economy has continued growing. Two-thirds of those lost merchandise exports have been offset by new exports to other countries. And almost 80 per cent of our GDP is produced and consumed right here, by Canadians, for Canadians. Trump can't touch that.
Yes, it will be a bumpy ride to disentangle our economy from overreliance on what is now a failed democracy next door. But as the 10th largest economy in the world, with a wealth of natural and human resources, and a stronger capacity to solve problems together, we will most definitely survive without Trump's America.

All curb lanes are parking lanes whether legal or illegal. Every block in Toronto thet is purportedly 2 vehicle lanes each way has at least 1 illegally parked vehicle on it, making it functionally 1 lane but worse because of weaving. These streets were ALWAYS functionally one lane in each direction.
