Ending the triple lock isn’t the same as cutting pensions. Thatcher linked the state pension to inflation rather than earnings growth with the result that the value of pensions fell relative to earnings. The triple lock was designed to reverse than trend. It’s done its job. Restore the earnings link

What is a "Zionist synagogue"? There are two possible meanings. 1) Any Synagogue affiliated to a denomination which in some way has expressed support for Israel's existence. Which is most of them. 2) Any Synagogue which has prayers which can be interpreted as "Zionist". Which is ALL of them.

Incidentally, Burnham referring to the two previous conference votes on proportional representation is a tribute to the diligent work of campaigners in the party. They worked extremely hard to build a base of support in Labour, against the odds.

The triple lock announcement today is essentially a shift to a long-run link to earnings. But with a minimum of inflation or 2.5% in any given year. Most importantly that removes the permanent ratchet above earnings.

I knew him at university when he was on the far left (as described accurately in Baldwin’s book). The move from far left to centre left is pretty well trodden: but most politicians who have trodden it can also tell themselves and others a good story as to why they trod it.
