Kind of a general one: in period dramas, they often have everybody wearing clothes from that decade and driving cars from that year and listening to music released the month when the story takes place, and that's not how it works.

You know who never makes this mistake? Scorsese. When the story is about gangsters in the 1970s and 80s, the music on the soundtrack, and in the bars that they stole from the rightful owners, is songs they liked when they were kids or adolescents, or stuff their parents might've played all the time.

Well-sourced, eye-opening (but in hindsight, unsurprising) piece from Adam. The main use of AI by publishers appears to be publicity/marketing. I would like to explain why this is a bad use from the perspective of someone who gets pitched dozens of books a week for coverage.

Ballpoint pen and colored pencil.

At the top of the piece we see the delicately drawn branches and leaves of an apple tree. Just beneath the tree limbs, a bat is flying with one of the green apples in its mouth. This is when the morphing begins, reader. A sequence of 13 drawings show the bat morphing into a teeny witch (with completion of the morph around drawing #9). The morphing creates a spiral leading us to the center of the page where the little witch is running towards her basket filled with apples. It’s likely she’ll re-morph into a bat again and the morphing pattern will continue.

Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse: archive.org/details/tipp...
A casual Star Wars alien fella at the cantina, in a sun faded, reddish photo. Someone will be mad at me for not knowing who this is. Phil, a balding Caucasian man, poses a model of the garthok, an antagonist from the Coneheads movie.Phil, a balding caucasian man, points at some CG on a CRT computer monitor, as a younger man looks on. The screen shows a model of a dinosaur attacking a jeep, while there's an actual physical model of that event in the foreground for reference.an isolated shot of a star wars vehicle. Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.
From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

There is no such thing as art without a human on one end of the line and a human on the other end. In communication with each other.
A city that exists
There is no such thing as art without a human on one end of the line and a human on the other end. In communication with each other. Like a closed electric circuit (?) I could explain that better but I spent my life appreciating art. There are pieces of writing that stand on their own without any supplementary information but there's a reason that when we read a classic poem or short story we usually soon after want to know when and where and under which conditions it was written. Same with music. You can hear a song you like and appreciate it knowing little but the first question people often ask when you play them something by a new band is where are they from? It’s funny that you should ask because they are from a city that exists. Art is a conversation where the particulars of the world are made universal and the universal is made particular. Think about how powerful an engine of imagination it is for a young person hearing a band and learning that they are from some far off place – Tokyo or New York or even somewhere gross like the UK. It is a time portal. It is magic. It even works if the artist dead. So too with a painting. The little information plaque in the museum is an extraordinarily powerful tool. What if it said no one painted this nowhere? Well then you’d be looking at nothing. And now what would you be?

As someone who began my moviegoing at the 99 Cent Cinema, paying $30+ for a film in NYC gives me sticker shock. And premium formats are the tickets selling out, while standard—a bargain at $22.49—go unsold. It's a paradigm shift that's keeping the chains open, but pricing a lot of us out. #FilmSky

Thread from anti-trust expert re: Paramount’s threats to leave LA
Screenshot of posts by John Mark Newman with link to TMZ story saying Paramount to leave California:

This exclusive "news" story smells like a Paramount psyop. I've had some experience dealing with sneaky PR campaigns by big companies trying to push mega-mergers through antitrust review.
Here's why this one stinks: short thread 1. A story like this ("Company X told Government Official Y...") generally doesn't come from gumshoe reporting. It's "leaked" (read: fed) to the press by the company. If it's a real story, the company will use a respected news outlet like Wall St. Journal/NYT.

But this one went to TMZ. No shade to TMZ!

But that's the sort of press contact that a big company's PR team would be willing to burn with a garbage story. You won't burn a serious reporter at a serious outlet. Or if you try, they probably just won't publish it.2. The "story" doesn't actually bind Paramount to anything. If/when Paramount doesn't follow through, it's not technically backing off a promise.

Read closely: the story isn't that Paramount *TOLD* the gov't it's leaving CA. It's that Paramount was
"going to announce..." it was leaving California

3. Paramount immediately did... nothing. So the story is "Paramount told the government that it was going to tell the government that it's going to leave the state." But then Paramount didn't actually do that--with zero explanation for the supposed change of plan.In sum: Paramount gets a big news cycle with total deniability.
Impossible to know for sure, but it has all the hallmarks of a PR gambit by an aggressive press team... and none of the hallmarks of a real, substantive story.
