I am seeing the Dream Syndicate for the fourth? fifth? time in recent times — they are a band who LOVES Cleveland — and they are just so, so excellent. An American treasure of songwriting, nuance, and noise.

Threw on "Automatic for the People" tonight and was struck again by how *righteously angry* "Ignoreland" is, in the best possible way. I filmed it in 2008 when I saw the band; it's rather satisfying listening to it in 2026 too. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYDt...

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who like the Police's "Don't Stand So Close to Me '86" and those who don't. (I am firmly in the former category; I cannot resist the allure of the Fairlight.) The song came out 40 years ago(!) today. youtu.be/8RlUMoWP-Mg?...

U2 had their first rehearsal 50 years ago today in Larry Mullen Jr.'s kitchen. Love that they celebrated by going around to their classic haunts and playing music. A beautiful way to celebrate friendship and longevity. I wrote this a few years ago: ultimateclassicrock.com/u2-first-reh...

Tomorrow, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is celebrating 9 to 5 Day with an all-day Dolly Parton celebration. 💜 I signed a bunch of "Dolly Parton: The Stories Behind the Songs" books for the museum store. Portions of Rock Hall tickets go to the Literacy Cooperative; I’m also donating. 🦋 Dolly forever.

U2 new album tidbit from PR: “The final track on the new album, “Torn,” a duet between Bono and the late, great Dolly Parton, in what has sadly turned out to be her last recorded vocal performance.” I’ll note parallels to the Zooropa-era Johnny Cash duet “The Wanderer.”

I think I have leveled up as an author: Went to the gynecologist today, was casually talking about what I do and mentioned I had written a book about Taylor Swift. Turns out, the doctor owns it, as it was gifted to her by another doctor in the practice: "It's on my coffee table now!"
